Red King of Edmonton Alberta Canada placed a photo of a strat he built on Warmoth's Gallery which is black sort of. The color and grain exposure is an interesting take on a black strat. I am wanting to contact Red to determine how he created the finish. If anyone out there knows him and can put me in contact, I would appreciate it. Also opinions regarding how the finish was created would be appreciated. Please see attached picture.

Alder, black stain, light sandback, no grainfill, and then clear?

I dunno, but if you want to try a Minwax product,you could maybe get something like that with their Onyx water-based stain on ash (the image shown is prob'ly oak):

Looks like a satin finish - maybe wipe-on poly?
