Rear route Tele neck pickup question

Hi All,

I just got in a chambered rear rout telecaster body and I’m trying to get the neck pickup wires fished to the control cavity. There’s about a 75* bend it needs to get past, but i can’t seem to force the wires to make the bend. I shot a flashlight through the control cavity and i can see the wires pushing into the “wall” of the route bend and just stopping. Any tips?

Try a little piece of tape wrapped around the end. Cover up the frayed wire bits, and twist the end  into a point. Should get through the hole.

If you have something like some bicycle valve tubing or similar go from the control cavity and then use it to pull the wires through.

See this post for photos of this method being deployed.

Nice tip about the rubber tubing, Stratamania. For some reason I hadn’t seen that in you build thread.

Another thought is to snake a piece of plain 22AWG wire through first, and use it to pull the pup wires through.

Thanks all!

I ended up taking a long zip tie and drilling a hole in it and feeding the wires through it and pushing it through to the cavity.

Got it all wired up and put together and it sounds awesome! :headbang4:

I have also found that getting some Mitchell's abrasive/sanding chord and running it back and forth through the tunnel to smooth any edges that might catch on the wire, and even widens it a tad, helps quite a bit.
