Raising/sanding wood grain before danish oil - needed or not?

Hi everyone.
The question is - if I plan to finish the alder body in danish oil (multiple layers), do I need to moisture body first, and then sand off the raised grain, before oiling? Or not necessary?
Just for the record -  I do not plan applying anything water-based, neither before nor after. Only multiple layers of danish oil.

You can, but you don't have to. Best results - follow the directions on the can.

For me, if the wood is at 220 grit (which is at what warmoth ships) then no more need for sanding or grain raising with Danish Oil.  Wipe first to get the oils off with naptha, then put on thin layers of danish oil with a lint free cloth.  I usually just use 3 layers of danish oil, then two thin layers of wipe on poly.  Let it dry 5 days between applying the danish oil and poly.  Or just put on the danish oil, takes more coats then.
