Question on meanings in schematic: parallel and phase

I've got two questions on what Seymour means in the accompanying diagram ...

When the volume push / pull is activated does it put the two pickups into series, ie bridge flowing into neck (or visa versa), or something else?

When the tone switch is activated does this mean that the pick-ups are now out of phase?

I really like the sound of two single coils put into series and then put out of phase (a nasally sound), and I was wondering if this did the same thing but for humbuckers.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

@stratman: Thanks!

In preparation for my next build I'm looking at schematics, and one of those options I want in include is that series / out phase sound.

You could also look at "Jimmy Page" wiring but that needs 2 Vols and 2 tones normally to do it.

I realize this isn't what you're talking about but I got that nasally tone with 1 vol, 1 treb bleed and 1 bass bleed. Dial them both in and the tone gets nasally.

Here's a diagram by Joe Gore that I used.

My goal here is to advance the evolution of the electric guitar.  Jimmy Page already thought of this?  Damn, I'm always late to the party. :bananaguitar:
