Pups for my Strat

I've heard the YJM strat pups from Dimarzio are incredible. I'm no Dimarzio fan, but if I had a strat I would have to try them out if I wanted something other than EMG.

Well I'm thinking more late 60s than 50s here.

Fender Custom Shop has a set of "Custom 69's" priced the same as the Fat 50's, they switched over to this design with a gray cardboard bottom sometime in the mid-60's, I think. I have a set in a build, they're not that much different, a bit more "schprongy" played absolutely clean if that makes any sense.

Give some examples of "late 60's" to which you refer? What mostly comes to my mind involves effects chains that if used you wouldn't be able to hear a lot of difference between the 2 Fender Custom Shops sets or some of the other suggestions anyway.

Well I was just thinking that since I'm getting a Strat I would model it after my favorite Strat player which is David Gilmour, though he is basically tied in my mind with Jimi Hendrix as my favorite.  I guess what I'm going for is I want it to sound beautiful.  I'm going for gorgeous cleans with maybe a tiny bit more oomph in the bridge area.  I already have 2 guitars that can do hot sounds and blues, so I want one that is really pretty sounding, and when I think of beautful guitar solos I always think of David Gilmour and his '69 Strat.

A combo of Duncan SSL-1/SSL-1/SSL-5 is pretty close to the set on Gilmour's signature Strat (n = Fender CS Fat '50, m = Fender CS Fat '69, b = Duncan SSL-5).

Most vintag-y pickups with a hot bridge will do the trick.

My last post about this, I promise:

Callaham/Fralins. If I had the chops to record you a David Gilmour solo, I would do so and post the clips. Perty and full.

I've got a couple of Duncan SSL-1s, and in my opinion they are a little thin sounding. Vintagy, perhaps, but I think they lack something.

I didn't like the SSL-1s all that much, either. A bit bland or something, to my ears. I wouldn't get them again.
