Couldn't stand the showcase sale tempation any longer. Ordered the body for my Paulocaster. Chambered Black Korina w/ Wilkinson trem. Gonna stick gold hardware and a black pickguard on it. Pickups are still changing from week to week, but it's going to sport two humbucker sized pickups, and a wenge/ebony 24 3/4" scale neck, Earvana drop in nut, and locking tuners.

STOP READING MY MIND :laughing7:

But seriously I've been planning a building just like this for a long time, it be nice too see one all done up :icon_thumright:

There's been a couple of these critters built.

I've seen a couple of oil finished Korina strats recently, and just love it. I just adore the finish on Steve_Karl's rear routed strat, even though I was kinda thinking a smidge darker. http://www.sightsea.com/renders/korina_finished/062.jpg  TroubledTreble convinced me that it would look snazzy even if top routed. http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=14296.0 (Although I can't believe he put chrome on that thing. Tsk tsk.)

The rest of the plan is 24 3/4"  Wenge/Ebony boatneck strat w/ gold GD6105 frets, Earvana nut (absolutely love it), and no inlays (like TroubledTreble's).

On pickups I'm still trying to decide what I want. I like the idea of a noiseless P-90 in humbucker form factor, but all I can find is botique stuff with chrome covers.  I may just go Jazz/JB or something lower output. I'd really like to hear some good p-90 tones in the correct amp context (cranked AC-30's and JCM800's)   before I go that route.

ETA - just looked at Wenge vs Goncalo Alves for the neck, and wondering if Goncalo Alves might be a better tonal fit.

Big Brown Truck (BBT) is warming up the engine! I got a tracking number.  I suspect in another 5 years, Google and Fed-UPS will have a real time map view of 'Where's my package', but in the meantime I'm reduced to pinging the UPS website every couple hours until it shows up now.

Can...
Hardly...
ARRRRGHH!

In further news - someone is interested in my fretless bass, which means... neck might be on order soon!

So: Wenge/Ebony, Wenge/Wenge, or Goncalo Alves/Ebony? I'm seriously thinking about sticking a set of GFS Mean 90's in there and see how i like em. At least give me a starting point on pickups. I can always craigslist em and go traditional HB's if I don't care for em, or decide I want a better P90buckerimitation.

Gotta say I'm part of the wenge/ebony fan club.  Thick, honking midrange and articulation like no other.  Come to think of it, it sounds like it'd be made for P-90s  :guitarplayer2:

BTW, my guitar-playing buddy really likes the GFS Dream-90s in his Epi Sheraton, probably a better match for his semi-hollow than the Means, which would probably be better for a solidbody, in my opinion.

Dangit, UPS isn't updating. It's been stuck at "Departure Scan, Portland, OR for 3 days now.  I'm sure it's moving just not being updated but ...

And I realized, with the chambered body, and mean 90's, maybe I shouldn't call it a Paulocaster. Perhaps a Nighbird Jr? Nightchick? El Vira? Saturday Nightbird Special?

A SIGHTING!! UPS updated for the first time since it left Puyalllup 6 days ago. Surfaced at UPS center 80 miles away this morning. I think too late to make it today's truck. :(

Man, if they want to spur consumer spending, the feds should pressure UPS to update their freakin tracking info. It certainly adds to the thrill.

"Out for Delivery" Next post goes in "just out of the box"!

Ooohh trying to decide if I'm gonna have a sore throat or tummy ache.

I shoulda got a solid maple body, so I could bash someones head in with it.. I went home for lunch, SAW the truck at our apartment complex. Went in to eat (cause they won't hand it to you if you catch em elsewhere).

And checked again out of pure neurosis only to see they marked it as undeliverable, needs correct street addrress!  Hopped in the car and ATL but no joy, he'd left already, didn't bother leaving it at the apt office either.
