Post Your Satin Nitro Maple Neck Pics Here

Looks nice.  Why is it not as good as your raw necks?

I remember when I got it thinking that the finish was so smooth that it really didn't feel like it was finished at all. But, once side by side with the raw wood exotics - the satin finish almost felt a little sticky. I even tried to clean it a couple of times thinking that maybe something off my hands had gummed it up but alas it is the way it is.

Don't get me wrong it's good - no problems very playable. I just like the raw wood better.

As an aside - Ernie Ball Music Man uses what they call Gunstock oil and a special wax blend on their maple necks and that is the best thing I've ever felt - basically a raw wood feel. If Warmoth would adapt something like this I'd look at satin finished necks again.

Took some pics.  4 necks, various ages and uses, some clear, some vintage tinit, all satin nitro.

1.) 4 year old heavily used vintage tint maple satin nitro
2.) 1.5 year old moderate use vintage tint birdeye maple satin nitro (note the slightly different shades of vintage tint)
3.) few month old never used maple clear satin
4.) 2.5 year old very little use 3A birdseye maple clear satin

May not be as visible in the pics, but the 2 with hardware have glossed up with slight use compared to the never played neck with no hardware.

Nitro is a thin finish and wears through eventually, so play it enough and you end up with a raw neck.  These 2 pics show 4 years of gigging wear.  This a right hand reverse neck, so don't let the headstock orientation throw you; this is the treble side of the neck.  The lighter areas on the treble side of the neck in the first pic are where the vintage tint has worn off but not yet met raw wood so it appears lighter than vintage tint.  The 2nd pic is the bass side of the neck.  There is a dark spot just to the left of the side dot fret marker that is dark.  This is wear the finish is now worn to the wood.  I love these finishes and the fact that they are thin and do wear off.
