anybody here with the new Line 6 Pod x3 series using the USB 2.0 ports for recoirding? any problems? latency? Im debating getting one of these or getting a Mackie mixer with firewire.

Don't know about the X3, but when using the hardware setting in RiffWorks on my XT it has a bit of a delay, adds a un-natural reverb to the sound, probably due to the latency. I use the USB for controlling the POD and the actual recording process. But I run the stereo outputs on the POD directly to my desk top speakers/monitors and it works flawlessly. Plus this way I have no other EQ in the PC messing with it, sounds just as it was recorded.

yeah, the latency issue realy dissapointed me with my XT...was planning on using it as the computer interface for recording but found it was unusable for this. Just thought that the USB 2.0 port would be faster with much less latency. Coming from being a Mac user, Ive head much hype about how fast usb 2.0 is from the PC crowd but as far as data transfers with hard drives go, firewire blows it away.

If you use the POD with some recording software that recognizes an ASIO device when hooked up, the POD will be the default ASIO device and will work without the latency issue. At least that's how mine works.

I run my XT Live into the PC via the USB, but I take the stereo outs into the monitor in on the UX1, no more latency.

The latency was eliminated with hardware direct monitoring.  I had close to 15-20 seconds of latency before when I was going direct into the PC's sound card.

WOW, that's bad, mine only sounded like a bad reverb. And yes the stereo out on the POD to your monitors works flawlessly.

Never had any latency issues when using ASIO drivers on my toneport and USB 2.0, for what it's worth.

If you want to avoid latency altogether (assuming you have a decent PC of course), you're best off getting a unit
that has a "dedicated" expansion card which sits *inside* your PC (typically a PCI card).  Lynx, E-MU, etc...

Ill have to take another look at my XT. Did want the extras from the newer unit (mic inputs, bass amp models) even if I have to buy a phantom power box for the mics it would be nice. Im with ya on the dedicated card thing, SL, but im trying to be cheap and mobile. :hello2:
