Maybe not in sound but... there are differences in the quality of materials?
From what I understand, the Ping is a high quality Floyd Rose, up there with an OFR. There may be a small difference in materials, but they are very good quality. I don't think you would regret the Ping.
"Up there with an OFR", but $75-100 cheaper. Why? Cheaper materials and construction, that's why.
So it has the 'Floyd Rose' name on it. BFD. Ping
paid Floyd Rose for the right to use their name on Ping's product.
End of story. And certainly nothing to do with 'quality'.
Simply put, its licensed copy at 2/3rd's of the price for a reason - its not as good as the real thing. The only exception to this
rule is Schaller whom Floyd Rose has used almost since day one to manufacture their bridges for them. In fact, I think Schaller
makes a superior bridge to the OFR.
Talking Warmoth - you're spending all this money on a custom built guitar, just to equip it with something sub-par. If one
surf's the various guitar related forums on the 'Net, you will find pages upon pages of threads of people bitching about why
their licensed FR clone is not doing X, Y, or Z properly.
I ask SustainerPlayer, I know its not an issue for you and you're happy with your Ping - but all things being equal - would you have
rather had an OFR that you could have just dropped in and used out of the box, or, you're totally cool with having had to
remove
wood and paint from your finished guitar body just to get it to fit and function properly?
I'm not attacking anyone here, after all - they surely must function on some level otherwise people wouldn't buy them. I guess I'm just
of the old school that says: Do something right, or don't do it. And I fully realize this is all just my opinion, even *I* don't think that FR
trems are by any means the pinnacle of bridge design. Ping and Gotoh (can't speak to Ibanez Edge clones) make a functioning product.
I guess I'm just puzzled by decisions to save a few bucks on a copy when the real thing is only those few bucks more... with none of the
headaches of a knock-off. :dontknow:
