Pickup size limit with a 720 mod?

I’ve been planning a build for some time now, and I’m just trying to work out the details. I know I want the 720 mod with a recessed Schaller bridge, but I’m worried about how little room that might leave for the pickups.

I was planning on putting a Sustainiac in the neck, which is 22mm tall (.866” in freedom units), and an EMG 85 in the bridge which is about 23mm (.900” freedom units).

Does anyone have experience with a similar setup using pickups of a similar size? Is it doable? Should the pickups be direct mounted or on rings?

Why wouldn’t it fit? The 720 mod still leaves .25” of fretboard height above the body, the pockets are .75” deep, so your tallest pickup is .15” proud of the top at max depth.

Worst case scenario you have to rout a little bit of the excess wood out from underneath. It will be covered, so any wood removal will be covered, even if you hack it out with a blunt chisel.
