Pickguard-less SSS strat. Looking for opinions for projects

I am thinking of building an SSS strat without pickguard to show the quilt laminate better. However, I think that an SSS strat without pickguard would look weird. What is your opinion? If you have any pictures, they would be appreciated.

well, as some of you guys know, i am pretty narrow minded about whats good in a guitar and what is total crap.
but IMO, it just doesnt have that fender strat vibe without the pickguard. so that means that if you are after the traditional, you need the pickguard, but if you want something more unique and modern, dont put on a pickguard.

i never liked the look or functionality of single coils being mounted directly to the wood.

it just has a "naked" unfinished look  to it.
i always have the feeling that i need to be all delicate and careful when the pickup is exposed.. it just seems like i am golng to destroy the pickup at the solder joint or something because that thin pickup wire is exposed.

just my 2 cents.

I'm sure there's some in the Gallery in the forum.  Here's a couple from the other gallery.  I'd also second line6man's comment regarding direct to wood single coil mounts.

you can always mount the pickups in rings like in the second pic. It may not be "traditional" but if you're paying for a beautiful figured top then you should be able to see as much of it as possible.

I don't like the rings.
The first strat looks really nice but the pickups are EMGs right? No wires coming traditionally out of the side of the base...

EMG pickups have a clip on thing underneath, thats why there are no visable wires coming out.

i personally woulnt be caught dead with EMG pickups in my guitar, so i think that rings are a great option, even though they dont look all that good.
if you get the right color/paint scheme going, they should look awesome.

Everyone has a different opinion, the important thing it's what you want. I prefer no pickguard when a nice top is included and I can't stand the rings so much that I would top rout it to have a pickguard instead of the rings

Warmoth is the ideal place to make your custom guitar and there are lots of different woods to chose. I prefer not to cover them with paint and plastic.

Aye, Warmoth is the opportunity to have it exactly like you want and everyone has different ideas and tastes. So go for what does it for you!

Some new SD come without that little piece of base... Bare Knuckles can be ordered in EMG size...

I think it looks great without pg or rings!

I came across this video a while and love this guitar! sounds great too, completely different to what you would expect from an all maple guitar with sc emg's
