perri ink guitars

Thanks for the great explanation Nick.  Its always great to get a glimpse "behind the scenes" with any business.  Whether or not any of us will end up ordering one of your guitars, we can certainly appreciate what you're doing.  Hopefully you'll stick around and keep us posted on your progress.  Best of luck to your business venture.

It's that "Radio Canada" garotte that concerns me about Mayfly. I guess they're keeping a really close eye on him - talk about gig anxiety.

(betcha the mouth ain't the only sphincter whats got puckered....)

Mayfly always has great shirts. Come to think of it, it might always be the same shirt... :icon_scratch:

Ahem - I DO have more than one stage shirt.

But - they are all extra groovy.

Oh - and the CBC Garrott was the ID badge from whatever festival that was.  It flipped around sometime during the performance.

Thanx guys, appreciate the kind words, and the support. I'm giving this my all. "If you never try, you'll never know".

ROCK!

Nice to see you on the board Nick, and if you don't mind me asking, where are you located?  I see your photos of the guitars are done by Jared Polin and he lives somewhat local to me and we shop at the same camera shop, so I was wondering if you lived around him because I would love to try one of your guitars and maybe give a review to the forum here.

And if you don't mind, could you tell me what your setup was like when you were recording Show and Tell? I love your sound on that record.

Hey Reinhold,

Indeed I am in the Philadelphia area again. I just moved back after 10 years out on tour and living in LA. Would love to meet up, and let you jam on the guitar, however it would have to wait until later this month as I'm getting married in 9 days. Yikes!!

NLD09:

Thanx for the kind words. For that record - being that our producer was Oliver Leiber - we had unlimited access to incredible vintage gear. Although, I used a lot of my own shit at the time as well. It was primarily Marshall plexi's with old cabs with real 25 watt greenbacks. For the rhythm stuff I used my reissue 1960 "plain top" Les Paul (killer guitar!) and a new (circa 2000) SG for the lead. There were a bunch of other guitars used for the "color" parts. Rick's, Strat's, Tele's, and some crazy shit I've never seen before. He (Oliver) was obsessed with collecting vintage guitars. It was a fun time.

When we hit the road in support of the record, I was playing mostly Firebirds thru a 1970 200 watt Marshall Major! Lol. When we were playing arenas on the '04 VH reunion tour, our sound man (Nitebob) would often yell at me from front of house.. "Nick, you're not even in the PA! Turn down!!!!!!!!" Good times ; )))

Personally I like the black color with the maple necks and the electronics sound like my cup of tea. Now I just have to save some money so I can buy one. :guitarplayer2: :headbang1:

Hey Nick,

Nice to have you on the boards. Best of luck with the new business venture ... they look like sweet axes and I'm sure you'll do well.  :icon_thumright:

Also good luck on your latest venture ...

... that's a whole new trip!!  :laughing7:

Hello everyone,

Again, thank you for the kind words, and the support. It's appreciated.
For those of you who haven't heard the guitars I've been building, I have cool news.
Available today, on iTunes, is the first pro recording to ever feature PERRI INK. guitars exclusively.
I used the Solostar in the bridge position for the rhythm, and the Protostar in the bridge position for the melody and lead.
No effects, minus a little delay and reverb in spots for vibe. I think the true tone of the instruments shine true very nicely.
Here is a link to the site and the iTunes button at the top of the page will take you directly to the song.

Coincidently, this also happens to be my 1st solo instrumental release. I hope you all dig it.
Lots of guitar playing!!
Enjoy~

Nick

Very nice looking guitars, simple, yet it seems effective, and congrats on the getting married part too.
Just curious if you have any plans down the road to bring out a bass or two models,
Whilst im generally too oddball colour scheme and such to likely buy one  :laughing7:, am still interested in if this is a plan for the future, or just concentrating on a few guitars.
Well good luck with everything and  :rock-on:

Hey SolomonHelsing,

YES in fact! I finished designing the 1st PERRI INK. BASS guitar a few weeks ago. I hope the prototype goes into production next month. All I can say without giving it away, is it's killer!
Kinda combines features and the feel of my 2 fav basses in the world.. which just also happen to be the most popular, best sounding basses as well.
Stay tuned brother..

I think we all here might be exactly the opposite of Mr. Perri's target demographic.
We're all here because WE want to do the grunt work to get our custom guitars. But many players don't have the inclination/time/patience to actually do all the work themselves.

His work looks pretty solid, and I am intrigued by the electronics.(There might be a market for the electronics here, if not for the whole guitar, per se.)

He probably has a pretty high overhead. A lot of times people don't understand all the associated costs of doing business, and especially us hobbyists tend to forget that when someone is doing this as a business people need to be paid. The cost of my Warmoth Strat would easily be double if I had to budget a reasonable hourly wage for all the time painting and soldering etc.
I do find it funny that the motto is 'Handmade and Built to Order' and there is only Gloss Black as a finish option.
(Don't take this as a harsh criticism, but when I think 'Built to Order' one of the first things I think of is Custom paint.

Although I'll probably never buy one, as I would rather build what I want, I love the idea of someone offering something that the big manufacturers don't. It's hard to make money selling guitars because you have to compete with some pretty huge and well established companies, so I wish you all the best luck.
