I don't use a lot of effects so I'm not really as qualified as much as some others around here seem to be, but in my limited experiences with pedals I've been happy with MXR and BOSS. I just started a pedal board up last year and currently have an EVH wah, BOSS Blues Driver and an MXR EVH Phase. My friend just gave me a Fulltone Distortion pedal this past weekend. I'm wanting to get an MXR Carbon Copy and an MXR Chorus pedal. As for the distortion pedal I doubt I'll get much use out of it. I have a Mesa Recitfier, I don't need any other gain. What I would really like to do is to scrap all this crap and get a good delay/chorus rack mount unit and be done with it. TC Electronic comes to mind.

the boss sd-1 super overdrive is basically exactly what the modders do to tube screamers cept for the expensive caps and the the opamp may be diferent. i got mixed info on that. from what i understand it is a more hifi opamp from bur brown maybe. while the ol 742 in a ts-9 is one of the oldest and cheapest lofi pieces of crap that ever made it into audio, it just happens to clip well. the tube screamer guys are gonna disagree with that im sure, but ask an engineer.

Yes and no. The SD-1 and TS-whatevers share very similar topology. The pedals are often modded in nearly identical fashions to give the same sonic results regardless of the specific pedal. Both types typically contain 4558 (dual opamp) chips, either JRC or TI. Not sure which chip the 742 is, but the 741 (single opamp) was common in the MXR Dist+. The two types aren't interchangeable.
Moreover, it's highly debatable what difference cap and resistor types make in a 9v pedal. The old equation is to mod 2 identical pedals, one with "cheap" ceramic caps and carbon film resistors, the other with "superior" metal film components. If you could tell the difference, then you're a better man than I.

Truth.

I don't use effect pedals very often but when i do i plug in to someone of these
Colorsound Overdriver(Vintage)
Klon Centaur Overdrive
Xotic RC Booster
MXR MC-401 Boost/Line Driver
Colorsound Tonebender jumbo (Vintage)
Analogman Sun Face NKT 275 red dot
Ibanez TS9 (Vintage)modded
MXR Dyna Comp (Vintage)

and a Yamaha UD Stomp that i always use.

Oddly enough, a little more than a month after I posted in this thread, my birthday rolled around and Mrs. MULLY gave me an MXR Carbon Copy. Love it.

Z-vex is where it's at. And I completely owe discovering them to THIS forum.

Thanks guys!  :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

Dunlop wha
fender tuner
and a tube driver, don't even know if that is still made, but it requires 120 as it has a real tube in it
besides that, I get a good chorus by using stereo amps and cabinets,  use spring (tube) reverb in the amps and love the distortion of tubes being over driven so I do not need anything else.
I would buy a real PLATE REVERB, if they made one smaller than a full stack.

here is an example of a Frankenstein plate reverb

I noticed a while ago that worrying too much about gear and settings was adversely affecting my playing, tone, and especially my wallet, considering the amount of pedals I was buying.

I've discovered that all I really need is a fuzz pedal, wah, and delay. Brand doesn't really matter.

I've developed a rather unfortunate taste for BJFE pedals of late.  They really are just in another league compared to other pedal manufacturers imho.  I have their Sea Blue EQ, a clone of their Honey Bee Overdrive, the Mad Professor Mighty Red Distortion (which is BJ-designed), and i'm actively seeking out one of their compressors currently.

I agree that the EHX pedals are great, but i have never been able to make them work for me.  I would love to try a Deluxe Memory Man, though, everytime i hear someone playing one it sounds like U2 in a pedal.

The only pedal I have right now is a Ibanez Screamin Deamon Wah.  Love it!  You can adjust the tone and shape of the curve just about any way.  I have it set up for bass.  It gives a nice low wah...more of a woh than a wah.

In the mailbox today was a large beaver from BYOC.  I'll probably have that built before my neck get here.

Oh I am planning on a Korg Pitchblack. And I might be willing to try a Decimator w/ my new Mean 90's.  And I've always wanted a wah that didn't go icepicky on the way to turning it off. And I've thought about hooking up one of those accelerometers on a chip to a wah circuit, but I'm afraid it would be like the guys that set the wah for a tone control and leave it be. :)  And I actually have been known to use a bit of slap and reverb when I'm running direct to the PC. (LADSPA)  and tubescreamers aren't bad but I'm not picky about them.

But mostly I hate stomping on things on the floor that require $300 in 6" cables just to hook em all up. Instead of Whacka-mole, it's more like Stompa-roach.  That and  I tend to play the pedals instead of the guitar when I have had them before.

Of all stomp tuners out there, the PolyTune is the only one that interests me lately. The iPhone app is great, but not stage friendly :laughing7:

I'm thinking of putting together a live rig with a small tube amp and some basic pedals: a fuzz pedal (Big Muff?), OD and boost (considering the BYOC OD2 for that) for gain, absolutely a tremolo and a delay pedal preferably with tap tempo. And definitely a volume pedal, I feel crippled without one... Not sure where I was going with this, but anyway!

I've only ever owned Danelectro pedals (the old big metal ones (late90s) were great aside from the plastic in/out jacks.
I have Fab Tone, DanEcho, and bacon&eggs (distortion+speaker, so it's a tiny portable amp)

wait, I have a Morley Wah pedal that I absolutely hate too.

I just picked up a Danelectro Chicken Salad Vibe pedal for $21 brand new.  It sounds AWESOME.  Like, shockingly awesome.  I'm going to rehouse it and mod it with better pots and True Bypass, and then that thing will be a monster.
