Pau Ferro Finish Issues

I got a nice Warmoth Pro Strat neck, maple with Pau Ferro (very nice).

I started to finish it with some Minwax Tung-oil. I taped off the top of the fretboard (not the sides). I applied the first coat. On the maple Tung oil has dried. But on the Pau Ferro is still seems tacky.

Is there something inherently hard to finishing Pau Ferro?

Any pointer would help.

Standard practice is to not finish the oily woods on fretboards. The oil will mess with the finish

Just tape off the side of the board too

Tape off the sides. No reason to finish it anyhow.
