I've never seen Snakewood on a fretboard before. That's an interesting look.

That Ebony is too rare to even dream of.

Both of those are stunners. Pale Moon Ebony often gets mind blowing beautiful from the photos I've seen. Super pricey for a fretboard blank. Ormsby guitars in Australia uses several exotics but they don't come cheap and you have to be into their guitars as they design them.

Kinda makes me sick that for literally centuries they would log ebony trees and if it wasn't pure jet black they'd just leave the tree to rot or else burn it.  Now the stuff they were abandoning or burning is going for top dollar because it's been rendered so rare.

And now:

Chicks in New York are payin' top dollar for this garbage.

The snakewood I have seen is dark like dark RW and jet black ebony. It's also one of the most hard woods available.

I like both of them, especially the light one but ask most guitarists and they will tell you no. Neither Fender, Martin or Gibson used pieces like these in their iconic guitars so they will take good ol' RW and plain maple for their guitars instead of these "monstrosities". Simple as a guitarist's closed mind...

I think Jeff Kiesel posted some showcase pics of his work with pale moon ebony fingerboards.

I'm a fan because they remind me of the beach: driftwood that has been uh experienced lets say (I hate to say rotted), even long surfboards. Not the expensive short surfboards but the longboards. Those long fading streaks give plenty o' sag on those pale moon ebony boards, if you get my drift  :occasion14: although the one featured at the top of this thread is what I would call RAGING! No sag there if you get my drift!
