PAF in parallel mode or Filtertron

To be honest I have never had much use for humbuckers wired in parallel. Great idea in theory and I have wired it into many many instruments only to have it almost universally unused! YYMV, &etc...
In my experimenting with more than basic wiring, I incorporated coil splitting into a few builds. I've never actually used those tones. The lesson learned is, keep it simple.

Related to the OP's question, this post now has me interested in exploring Filtertron type pups. For HB's, I've learned, I'm not a fan of A2 magnets. To me, they sound like a blanket was thrown over the sound. I like A4's, A5's and Ceramics for their brightness and articulation. Very curious to try a Filterton. I understand TV Jones has options that will fit a HB route.

Filtertrons are big magnet small winds which means the DCR is low. Vintage or Vintage spec ones fall apart under gain. If you like gain at all, then TV jones classics or classic plus is the minimum I would go.

They are physically narrower than Humbuckers so the string width they "see" is less which makes them brighter. Then the low winds make them brighter. They are very unique sounding so a "simple" wiring change to a humbucker wont even start to get you close to them

Just seeing this now, so here's my $.02:

If you want the Malcom sound, get a Filtertron. Nothing else works. Trons have this woody, stringy, clangy, percussive......THING, and nothing else does it.

Well, TV Jones makes pickup adaptor rings for this. Should work as long as it's a TV Jones brand of Filtertron pickup that you use.

Warmoth sells these TV Jones universal mount pickup rings on our website.

Since we're talking about Malcom, here's some cool stuff:

Malcom is one of my personal guitar heroes. I was the Malcom in an AC/DC tribute for about 5 years. Some don't know this, but before the beat up, road worn, and reliced Gretsch Malcom Young signature model we all know today, Gretsch did a MY sig model that was pristine. I played it in my AC/DC tribute:

It was a killer axe, and sounded absolutely golden.

One of the videos I'm working on right now is recreating the specs of this guitar using Warmoth parts. Obviously it ain't gonna look the same, but the bones will be similar. I'll be using a Mooncaster body with no f-holes and an Hombre neck. I'm waiting for the parts to be completed, and I will probably shoot it sometime in February. It should be a fun one! (Though I'm certain the YouTube watchdogs will have me in their noose. But I got nine lives, cat's eyes, abusing every one of them and runnin' wild.)

And just for fun, here is footage from one of the funnest gigs of my career, using the MY sig model:
