P90 suggestions?

Ok guys, long story short:

The V that I wanted to build has been put on hold indefinitely, since the Gibby V's disappeared...  The VK is nice, but I'm really not feeling it...

So the showcase has given me some ideas, specifically a Strat (though I think I'd rather have a musiclander, there aren't any in the showcase for me yet) and Phil X has inspired me to try a single P90 design.

HOWEVER

I really don't wanna fork out 120 bucks for the P90X that Phil hawks.  I also don't know much about what kind of P90 would be needed for that fat hard rock sound he gets.  I think his sig P90 is wound to 12.something k, but he often goes on about how really hot pickups aren't necessary.

Ok, so it's not so short.

Anyway, I guess the questions I have are as follows:

Would a 12-13k P90 be considered a particularly "hot" winding?
"Vintage" advertised P90s are usually in the 8-9k range for the bridge position.  Would that be able to handle a harder rock sound?
What is a typical price range for a P90?  Even $80 seems a bit much to me, but I'm not really sure.

Just call Ken at Roadhouse and tell him what you're after.  The guy is a prince among men, a serious pickup witch doctor, and very reasonably priced.  I have his True Blue P90's and they flat out RULE.  He receives PM's on this board as TroubledTreble.

I have a "T90" and a P90 combo from Ken in my Tele that has a bender.  Very fun.  I'd echo Bagman about talking with Ken.  While there are a bunch of other builders out there, and some that will build you what you are looking for, Ken does so at a nice price.  And he is one of us, so I also like to give him the business.  But, more importantly, he makes really outstanding stuff.  Mention the style and sound you are going for, and he can get you where you want to go.  If they give away details about the Phil X design, he can add that to it, while still maintaining the Roadhouse mojo.  And yes, there is mojo in his pickups.  Some crazy different take on winding, aka mojo.

Thanks guys!

I've already talked to Ken, and I think we've made a deal.  It's a small start (I still need the body/neck and EVERYTHING else) but I've got a couple things in mind, and no matter what I end up with, Ken should be giving me a good foundation.

Always nice to deal with someone so highly recommended :)
