I asked about Alumina P-90s on my last post and it should have been Alumitone P 90 by Lace - duh. Misspelled again.
On the subject I am building a custom guitar and want a set of 2 P-90's. Would anyone share their experience with them and what their favorite P-90 is? I'm all over the ball park on this one (it took me 3 months to figure out which options on the guitar I wanted) and am trying to decide between: Gibson, Fralin, SD vintage and custom, and the Lace Alumitone (which I think looks cool). Any help would be appreciated for a classic sounding P90.

When the guitar is built I'll post photos - can't friggin wait.  :help:

The p90 alumatone is alumitone tonality - p90 package

You need to decide which p90 tone you're after, because as in humbuckers, you can get many different flavors

I would go with either of these guys:
http://tomshortshandmadepickups.com/sweet_90_s.html also.
http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=p90-pickups
Both of them can be reached with an email and they can alter (wind more or less) their pickups depending on your needs.

Thanks very much. I've never heard of TomShorts so I'll check them out.

I heard a youtube clip of the strat alumitone but not the P-90. I'm reluctant to purchase one if it says something like "P-90 sound without the hum" because that type of sentence = sounds like a humbucker in my experience. Have you heard them?
Thanks

I love the P-90 sound.  Fralin's are great.  I bought a set for my Sorrento that didn't fit  :tard: Had to build and new guitar for those (local SF luthier) :toothy11:  I suggest calling lindy.  Tell him exactly what sound you want.  He'll ask about the woods on your guitar.  I went with some pretty extreme tone goals.  To my unusual needs, he said "..if if that's what you want... order this"  See, he didn't confine my choice, only helped realize the sound I wanted.  I bought SP-43s for  my tele too that gave it a P-90-like tone.  My Warmoth bass will have a Fralin P pickup aswell... Likely he'll have something to comment with that winding too.  hehehehe.

I love P90 pickups for tone and even looks but I hate the hum that comes with them so I finally settled for Kinman P90Hx over Gibson P100 or SD P90 Stack or Fralin's hum cancelling P90.  This is because Kinman has managed to captured the true P90 tone more so than the others and reduced hum altogether.  These are pricey but well worth the money IMO.

Thanks, this is all very helpful. I will check out Kinman. I listened to the Tomshorts Sweet 90s clip on their website - killer sound - thanks for the tip.

Lollar. Lollar Lollar. Does more need to be said? He makes a few different flavors, give him a call.

I read the info on his web site. Very impressive! I've put more research into this guitar than I did for my house or car. Is that unusual?
