Orientation of humbuckers

I'm installing 2 soapbar humbuckers in a Gecko-5. I noted on wiring diagrams for guitar humbuckers that the pickups are reversed in orientation from each other. That is, the neck PU has the slotted screws upwards and the bridge PU downwards. Is there a reason for this? Does it matter for a bass?

Also, would out-of-phase wiring do anything for a bass?

Somebody could probably come up with a plausible reason involving the screw adjustments etc., but I doubt it makes too much of a big whoop.
Out of phase will do the same thing on a bass as on a guitar, just one octave lower. I don't know how else to answer the question.
