Does anyone here own an orange amp or a splawn amp? I've been looking into the spalwn nitro or quickrod and the orange thunderverb or rockverb. anyone have one or have expierences with one or both? if you do what is your opinion of them? thanks -jc

all I know is I'd be happy with either, based on what I've heard from clips...

Know two guys who have played on them, from BKP forum, one is owner/endorser....
The endorser says it's perfect...
The other guys is kinda "vintage-maniac", like think Plexi Marshall with Tone Master (those that are NOT PPIMV -Post Phaser Inverter Master Volume) get a ruined tone... He told me:
"bad voicing of the upper mid range that sounds brittle and sterile, far too much treble, not enough bass. overall the amp was too compressed and tracked too tight like say an ENGL not a Marshall, the overall tone didn't come across like a Marshall to me at all.

build quality was good for PCB but not quite a Soldano or THD.

really not my cup of tea at all."

Splawn is not close of being sold in Brazil, even more for a affordable price... Orange is in the begginig of come here, F******** expensive...

But Orange are nice, beautifull and have a vintage-kind sound!

Just makes me think, as North Americans have the leadership on building electric guitars, Englishs have the leadership in building amplifiers (although that you would probably think americans are too, because of Fender and Mesa-Boogie)...

I would buy the Orange, following my personal taste and this believe, even haven't played anyone of them... But probably you can play both, so go to a store and play they longly...

Hah yeah neither one is cheap the orange is about 800 more give a take a bit and I want to go play them; the place where splawn is made is actually only a few hours away, but the nearest orange dealer is also a few hours away.. in the other direction and with gas being ridiculous it might be awhile before i make it to either place, it will also be a few months atleast until I buy something, but opinions are always good =)

The other post was somehow useless, as I said few thinks I really know, but when you get the money, be sure to go play both... I can think one is wonderfull and you think it's cr@p...

From the Splawn clips I have heard on the YouTube, I'd go for that.

The only Orange amps I am fond of are the Matamp built rarities or Ormats as they're called.

I have had an Orange hundred-watter for about 18 months now. I love it. I'm sorry i can't do sound samples for you, I wish i could brag over the internet about this thing. It's really that good. no problems or issues. They are built solid. It's a subjective thing but while i was purchasing i tried out 4 beasts: the Orange, a Marshall JCM 800, a Reeves, and a Hiwatt. I chose the Orange, but that Hiwatt was calling me. Still is. But i could only have one and the Orange Rockerverb won out.

Orange AD30

All the power you'll need
and two amps in one

I can use this amp for pretty much every tone other than high sustain gain (however I don't play very sustain oriented guitars)

I got mine used for 1000 -one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I'm definitely leaning toward the orange, does anyone know where I can find good sound clips or videos of the thunderverb or rockerverb in action? surprisingly youtube only has a few and they aren't spectacular.

I don't know about shoot-out or A/B type comparisons but the stoner/sludge/metal/heavy-rock/etc band Boris uses orange along with alot of fuzz and clipping. And Wata isn't bad looking either  :icon_biggrin:. Usually It's a 100 wat head. If you can find clips from this year she's switched to the Rockerverb 100, otherwise they are various incarnations of vintage heads, possibly modded slightly.

I have a Splawn Nitro matched with a 4 X 12 Splawn cab loaded with Eminence Big Blocks and Small Blocks in an X-pattern.What kind of tone are you looking for?I will say this,I have owned alot of amps including many Marshalls,Mesa`s,Line 6,Fender,Crate,etc....and the Splawn is hands down THE best amp. When you order one,its all custom,so you have so may options as far as tubes and cosmetics go.I have KT-88`s in mine(which cost an extra 100 or so),but you can get 77`s or El-34`s if you want. The Nitro is voiced for a little more modern sound, but it will definately get you into ACDC territory to 80`s rock to even blues and SRV type tones when you roll back the gain. The clean channel is also a pleasant surprise. This is the type of amp that you just plug into and there is your sound. No pedals really needed to get a great overdriven sound. With that said,I do have a guitar that has real low output pickups, but is really warm and I sometimes drive the front end of the amp with a Maxon OD-808 and it sounds awesome.

wow man that amp is sick. yeah the custom part would definately be an added bonus and a lil bit lighter on the wallet, but isnt it like a 3 month wait? my 5 week warmoth wait is killing me, it arrives tomorrow im pretty excited but, back to the amp, im looking for something that is warm, has a great mid boost sound, i hate that scooped mids sounds, basicly something that hits that 80's rock tone, early evh, ratt, motley crue, anything along those lines but I also want to be able to play more modern stuff such as the fall of troy, I really like their guitar work its quite awesome.  also if anyone has suggestions as to an amp id love to hear them.

This amp will do all that and then some.As far as the wait goes, a persons best bet is finding a dealer with a "Build Slot" and you would be able to go through him and the wait would not be that long.Alot of the dealers hang out on the Splawn forum and are very helpful and cool guys to boot.Another option is buying one used.Amps, unlike guitars get bought and sold more frequently due to people "looking for that specific sound" and selling them not realising that its probably their playing that sux!I have seen some great Splawns on ebay for killer prices.Anyway, good luck!

GoDrex: I sure have man been all over their site and oranges and harmony central, youtube, etc. thanks anyway man

and Sb thanks I'll definitely look into those options if I decide to go with splawn, planning on getting an amp around feb so I've got plenty of time to think, and more importantly save money. I still cant get over the wood on that amp I've never seen one like that before.

HAHA,I actually just finished building a live in road case for the head and the cab is next.I do want to get a nice combo down the road, but this head case is bulletproof.I hear Splawn might be introducing a combo in the next few months, would be cool to have. This will do for now..

BTW,the little hatch on the case is what I designed to allow the head to breath when it is in use.I call it my "heat hatch".It closes and latches down when I am not using the head.
