Black looks better. Nothing against zebra wood or figured woods at all, far from it. I love that stuff. But zebra's just too busy against that figured maple. Makes it look messy.

Against everyone else, I like the Zebra covers. They add a certain eye catching definition that the black ones don't. The Zebra adds some style and class, saying, "Hey, look at these pups."

Good eye, I been told a Russian Blue and also a grey abyssinian. I think the former. I got her and her sister from the local shelter (who don't know the breed) after they were found at their owner's house who had died in her house 3 weeks before, undiscovered. Best cats I have ever had.

There's a third option that might fit better, judging by the eyes - they're Korats. Russian blues have very distinctly deep green eyes that almost look unnatural, which are also set farther apart.

Damn, I think you are correct after looking through a number of Korat internet sites. I'm now convinced they are Korats.

Thanks for all of the input. I can see how many think Zebrawood clashes with the quilted Sapele (looks like Maple I agree) but I also agree with D-rock about eye catching even if it looks busy, distracting or even tacky to some. I just think the black plastic looks cheap even though they are standard for P-90s. Metal would be OK but I do have Zebrawood guitars and would like to tie them all in. I'll finally finish the damn thing, stain the covers and knobs and take some photos. If it is hideous, I'll change them.
Cheers everyone.

hmm. i think the black covers look aweful actually. I wouldn't personally have gone with zebrawood, but they certainly look way better than the black ones to me

I love the covers, but as others have mentioned, not on that body.
Very cool top on that geetar by the way.
And I say yes, Russian Blue...

Maybe Russian Blue.  I've heard Korat and Burmese as well.  Don't know.  I got mine 2nd hand at 2 months old.  The previous owner didn't know either.  It is also the best cat I've ever had too.

To keep it relevent.  I like the Zebrawood and I hate overly woodsy accessories.

Thanks and great looking cat. Looks a lot like mine. I took the guitar in to the luthier who is helping me put it together yesterday (I'm being kind to me-he's doing the lion's share) and he thought let's put them on and see. If they absolutely look awful (he liked the covers), they can be replaced and he even offered to make matte black metal covers with a thin gold pick up ring- just costs an arm and leg. Should be done in the next 2 months.

Now finally and I'll let the cat subject rest after this. Lillie got in her catnip infused scratch box last night (photo1) and then went outside and came back screaming and deposited a present: photo2.
Please forgive if it offends anyone. I never knew catnip was such a powerful drug for cats.

They don't need catnip to encourage them to chase down rabbits. Rabbits are simply the most fun to chase down. You should've seen some of the specimens my cat used to drag home. It was like a lion dragging a gazelle, it was so out of proportion. First time she got one was the first time I ever heard a rabbit make a noise, and it was quite a scream. Pretty unnerving, and made me wanna go get a gun. I didn't know what it was until 10 minutes later when she was dragging it out of the trees. I wouldn't have thought a cat would hunt something like that, but as time went on, between her and the hawk that lives near here the substantial local rabbit population was nearly wiped out.

wow - any cat that we had would stick to mice!  Although one cat we had would pick fights with dogs and win...

I'm late getting to this post...

Did you ever decide which way to go?  I say go for the Zebra Wood.  The more wood, the better.  Besides.  Its a scientific fact that more wood on your guitar will sound better, play better, look better, inspire awe in other guitarists, improve your playing and cause chicks to flock to you.  Trust me, I have Cocobolo P-90 covers on my Bubinga topped thinline and have experienced the magic first hand.

That's great to hear - who would have thought wood could have that effect? - I'll leave that one alone.
I decided to go for the zebrawood pickup covers AND zebrawood speedknobs, against the majority opinion. I'm really jonesin on zebrawood for some reason and want this guitar to tie in. Hopefully it'll make a statement even if it knocks me out of the GOTM :-\

Glad to hear you went with the Zebra Wood knobs as well, you'll notice I used Cocobolo knobs to match my pickup covers.  Its important to make sure everything matches, otherwise you might get an odd harmonic disturbance on minor chords that will result in trimodal feedback that be audible in no way what-so-ever.  And who wants that?

I'm liking how you combined 2 different woods of the pickup covers and knobs and your top laminate. It's what I'm planning.
Do you think the trimodal feedback attenuation on my solid body will be as important a consideration as your thinline? I've always thought that that particular type may have been present on the grassy knoll, not sure though. :o

I must have drove passed the grassy knoll a hundred times before I realized it was the grassy knoll.
