Opinions on finishing this poplar VIP

Hi, I bought myself a closeout VIP body for a christmas present - file under 'totally unneccessary impulse buy". But when I saw the coming price increases, I had to pull the trigger on this especially since I'd already been eyeing it for a while.
It's a sub-4 lb poplar solid VIP body. I plan on making something like a PRS hardtail CE22 out of it - with badass wraparound, coil taps, and a 24.75 '59 neck.

I haven't got the body yet, but the fellas at big W said it's just as 'white' as it appears in the picture. I'm leaning towards doing a transparent color on it, and I won't be able to spray anything here, so I'm thinking dye -> wipe on poly, or maybe an oil finish if I feel the urge. Neck, will depend on the other decisions I make but one thought is just to go all maple with a wipe-on satin poly. Or, all-canary possibly. This is going to sit till at least summer, I'm just thinking out loud at this point.
Happy New Year everybody - I missed the thread as I was on vaca.

First pics are the original, next ones are photoshopped various transparent possibilities. Which one do you like / any specific suggestions or ideas for this?

Nice grain in that poplar.  That is going to make a sweet build, Dr. Tim.  I like the blue and the amber.

That doesn't look as "green" as some of the other poplar bodies I've seen on the site; to be on the safe side, I'd stick with amberish/brownish tones, but you'll need to test out on the body when you get it. Peter's poplar Strat turned out startlingly well: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=5967.0

Been learning how to photoshop, finally! I was leaning towards red, but maybe amber and a darker neck is the way to go?

I personally like that red one you photo shopped there, but amber and darker neck would be nice too.  Do whatever makes you happy, it'll be nice either way.

I'm kinda partial to this one. And kudos for you on your photochops learning...... :icon_thumright:

Blue: Awesome!
Red: Not very natural looking, but still awesome.
Amber or Brown: FUGLY!!

Trying to get a vintage white look on photoshop, I accidentally did this trans "swamp aqua", think it looks kinda cool. Body is due next week....

Out of curiosity, anyone have suggestions on how to get either a solid white or a trans white mary kay thing going on with no spraying of any kind involved? Bit of googling doesn't turn up any "white dye" or anything.
I don't want to start spraying bodies in Central Park in the middle of the night....

Here it is, no green spots to speak of. The color here is actually pretty accurate. Very light. There is some black in the grain, which is mostly only visible on the ends. I wonder how that's going to stain. Now I'm leaning towards trans red - the darker SG type of color, now that I see it. Mary Kay could be nice on this too.

I hear that body screaming (in silent lucidity, of course) to reach its tonal nirvana with an optic pink doo

a pickguard in this tonal range would make this build totally WOW!!!  :blob7:

unless, of course, you have insecurities in your manliness ... and this color combo causes you significant insecurities  :laughing7:

Uhhh, I'm pretty sure I said brown.  Actually, a dark cherry a' la Gibson's would look pretty cool.
