How long can you let your amp on standby before it gets bad on the amp ???

2 hours and 45 minutes. This is known as the OSTBF (optimal standby time before failure).

I dont think there's any problem with leaving a tube amp on standby. IIRC you're just running a real low voltage current through the tubes on standby mode. It's an unnecessary drain on your electrical bill tho.

Eeeeeh... because I discovered this morning that I left my amp on standby all night, almost 7 hours :(

Well, I'm certainly no expert on this but I'd be willing to bet that leaving an amp on standby has virtually no negative effect on life. In fact if you beleive that heat cycles lead to electronics failures, leaving it on could arguably be better for it than switching it on and off frequently.

For what its worth ... the last studio I worked at, we had vintage tube EQ's and compressors that we left on 24-7 ... and these boxes do not have standby modes!!
When you talk to most electronic gurus, they say that gear generally fails when it is powered up or powered down (or overworked .... but that's a different situation).  Leaving it in an idle "steady-state" shouldn't do anything more than raise your electricity bill ....

Aaah... thanks a lot!

It's my first tube amp so I just try to take care of it as much as I can :icon_biggrin:
