This arrived about a week ago.  Has brown ever brought you your Warmoth neck and the box looked like this:

That's why I took a picture before opening it.  I didn't know if the neck was alright, or not.  So I open the box, and here is the neck:

OK so far, but what about this funky grain streak?

In person at a distance, it looks like a gouge, but it is not.  This is the original neck that I ordered for my cherry burst Strat.  The other one in the pics was supposed to be temporary and was going to be used for another build in the future.  I guess it is staying.

The box I got my neck in looked like that when I got it, but even having a neck painted alpine white, there wasn't a scratch on it...  Maybe I just got lucky?

I dunno, it does kinda scare you a bit, but I think the boxes are designed to take the abuse instead of the neck.  I'll let you know when I order my next one lol

Could be just a mineral streak.......May not ever pose a problem at all..... :dontknow:

To most it may seem not that unusual, but to me it's just strange looking to see a Strat headstock tilted....

What's with the 12 1/2 th fret, or is that a rubber band? Can't see too well in the pic...

Yeah, Byte, that is a rubber band.

Doug, I don't think it is a structural problem.  I just don't like the appearance of the line in it.  And I agree, the angled head stock is different.  That is one reason I went for it, the other is that I prefer my truss rod adjuster to be available without having to take off the neck.

the modern necks have the side adjuster, so you dont need to take off those necks either.

As long as it wasn't customized in some way that resulted in a voiding of the return policy (they would have told you if this was the case) you have a no questions asked 10 day return available to you.  Gregg or Wyliee can confirm this.

That's the thing...it was a custom neck.

Have you installed it on a body or made any modifications to the neck?  (In other words, is it still in as received condition?)  If it is still in as received condition, I'd suggest contacting rob@warmoth.com.  You may still have some options.

No, I have done nothing with the neck.  I'll contact Rob at that e-mail address.  Thanks Eric.

My warmoth strat neck has one of those on the back near the 12th fret. Personally, i like mine. It's darker. like a birth mark or something.

I wouldn't mind it on the back of the neck.  It kind of bothers me on the face of the headstock, though.

what i ment was, even being a custom neck, if its still a "standard custom", you may still have return options.  My neck was custom as well, but the only thing that made it non-returnable was the fact that I ordered it with no face dots.

Mine was also non-returnable for the same reason. If it is, it will be clearly stated on the invoice. If the invoice doesn't mention this, you should be able to return it.

You know, I think I would just take the lazy approach of "wood will be wood" and keep it.  You probaby won't notice it when the strings are installed, it's barely noticable in the distance pics now.  Or you could shoot it to match the red in the cherry burst.  Unless you can wait another 4-6 weeks for a new one...

BTW, LOVE the abalone inlays and gold frets!

Yes you are absolutely right. Plus you will always know it is there, even if nobody sees it.

Just got off the phone with Rob, from returns.  I won't get refunded for the gold frets, abalone inlays, or the floyd nut prep, but the rest will be refunded.  That works for me.  RMA# given.

Someone is going to paint that pegboard some solid color and live happily with it ever after.

I was just thinking, "Need to keep an eye on the showcase RSS"  :evil4:

You are absolutely right, and I thought about painting the pegboard, but it was not the look I was going for in my application.  I hope whoever gets it, loves it.
