Okonokos

If you haven't seen it yet, you should rent/buy/steal "Okonokos," the My Morning Jacket concert DVD.  First of all, it's awesome music.  Very much like a modern Zeppelin.  Great drumming, killer bass, great guitarists, and some of the best vocals since Freddie Mercury.  (I have no opinion on the guy who plays keys )  Also, they've got lots of really sweet guitars, and they change guitars frequently, so lots of guitar porn.  In particular, the lead guitarist Carl Broemel gets the BEST TONE EVER out of his goldtop with P90s.  Here's a clip, you can hear the goldtop on the lead line starting at 0:43.

+1 to that! Also, the Fillmore is a great place to see a band. Get there early and get right up to the stage!

We all obsess over guitars so much, but you know what, 'tolerable' guitarists are a dime a dozen. But the vocalist can really make or break a band... I find it is a lot harder to find bands whose singers I enjoy. I am still not sure about this guy.

He's got a sweet vocal solo on "Wordless Chorus".

I've heard this band several times before, and was always lukewarm to them.  Watching the clip there, well, still tepid.  I don't get the modern Zeppelin reference.
