Tomorrow morning I'm off to Gothenburg and the biggest guitar show here in Sweden.
Going to be fun.

Gotcha!  :icon_thumright:

I placed an order for some cheap mini humbucker pickups from a company that will be on the show. I'm going to pick them up and pay for them at the show and get the show discount and hopefully that will be the only things I buy.

If you've got 99.000 swedish kronors (about $ 11300!) you could buy yourself a Gibson ES5 from 1951:

I couldn't help noticing Juha Ruokangas in the background of one of your shots. Absolutely brilliant luthier and a really good guy. He even spent time with me discussing stainless steel frets and thermo treating wood. Not at this show but in Cologne.

That's correct. You have a good eye. His booth was next to the Strandberg booth were I spent some time talking with some representatives. I only looked at the Ruokangas guitars from a distance, and they look beautiful, but I didn't try them or talk to the folks at that booth.

Here's a very very short article about Ruokangas in the Fuzz magazine.

I'm glad I didn't imagine it. And it's almost impossible to check out everything at a show.

Thanks for the link. Perhaps if you get a chance to check them out in the future, I think you'll like the workmanship.

I'm sure I will. Looking at their website it's obvious that they make very high quality instruments.
Quite a few of the smaller guitar manufacturers at shows like this display wonderful and exceptional guitars, but more often than not it comes with a price tag that in my eyes make them less interesting. And more often than not I find that many manufacturers insists on making new unique body shapes that should have gone through some screening process from the public. Like the Strandberg guitars. They may make very ergonomic guitars but the fact is that I find them unpleasing to the eye to say the least.

But to each his own and all that ...  :)

Indeed, some of the shapes for ergonomic stuff doesn't quite do it for me. But some folks love them so it's great we have the variety.

On prices, looking back to the 70s and 80s, I think overall prices have got in real terms lower. So there are price ranges now for all. But if I compare in real terms what I paid back then to what I was earning suddenly custom prices don't seem as high. But I still find some prices difficult to get used to.

Of course smaller makers producing a good product deserve to be able to make a living and so on.

A small monster amp from Hughes&Kettner. Sounded awesome. Best I've ever tried, I think. I want!

Re the metal guitars by James Trussart:

Lianne La Havas plays one:

(Gotta put in a plug for her whenever possible – great songwriter + singer, interesting player. :glasses10:)

I didn't try them, but they sure catches the eye.
Thanks for tip about Lianne La Havas. I'm going to check her out.

Admittedly, I prefer her solo guitar + voice live performances to her full-on electronic band studio recordings. Here are a few favs, then back to your regularly scheduled guitar show (i.e. apologies for the mini-hijack! :glasses10:):

Did you get a  chance to touch any of those Trussart 'rust' metal guitars? I have always wondered if that style leaves you with rust dust on your arms, like when you come in contact with genuine rusted parts?  :dontknow:
