Nylon Strat Arrived!

Me too.

I was surprised at how interesting it felt to play it after I set it up.
Even though the nut was a bit strange it still played well and had a cool feel.

Finally some more guitar porn. :icon_thumright:
What do you call her?

Strat body can support F/Hole? Sexy and classy!
And Nylon/classical to boot!
I have an pro-angled canary/gonçalo alves that needs a body. Was toying with the idea of using an electric style neck for acoustic/classical/piezo body combo.

??? Still don't know what she will turn into, but this guitar gives me hope!  :headbang:

Could you shoot a picture of the neck from the side? I'm interested to see the boatneck from that angle, if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks.

Here's a boatneck kinda from the side (before and after tru-oil):

Hi Dusty,

I've never named any instruments and don't think of them as people.
I'll been calling it the nylon strat. and that will probably stick.

Yes I will ... when it gets back from the shop.
Also, an end shot from the butt would be pretty telling me things.

From seeing Bagmans pics I can see it's not easy to really capture in a photo.
I'd comment that mine doesn't look as pronounced as the unfinished pic ... but of course we all know they're probably identical.
Note the nut width on mine is 1-3/4".

I can tell you I was a bit worried before I got it in my hands, never having played a warmoth boat neck.
But, it's very comfortable and also very close to my Ovation Adamas neck, only dif. being the Adamas might be slightly slimmer at the nut
and then get up to the 1" at the 12th fret.

No worries about the photo; Bagman's does the trick, I think.

My Strat has the "standard C-profile" and my Hagstroms are pretty thin, about the same contour as the Strat, which I guess is Warmoth's "Standard Thin." My Heritage's neck is a little beefier, but it's not uncomfortable to play, just different. I just get a little wary of buying anything different since what I've been using has worked pretty well for me. But, then, I also have no idea if a change would work even better.

Thanks.

My oldest is a standard thin.
My last one, last year is a 59 round back, and I was a bit worried about that one also ... but not a problem and very comfortable once I got to play it.
The main difference I'm seeing is that for me, larger seems to be easier with less fatigue, but I still play my standard thin the most, probably because
I'm just very used to it as a whole guitar.

The 'nylon strat' seems worthy enough because this guitar F'n rocks!  :icon_thumright:

There is another guitar similar to yours (piezo strat), more on the fire side (red, yellow w/midi pickup and piezo pickup) that you might want to check out. I have a neck that needs a body, and I am thinking of going a similar route. Here are some pics.

WOW!! What a great combination of timbers and gold hardware.

Is the guitar top a Mary Kaye finish? I have my Warmoth Tele in MK finish, and I have been looking at wood choices for the neck. I am leaning towards Canary, but the pics of this Strat have just given me ANOTHER option!  The gold tuners on Bloodwood looks great.

I am really looking forward to hearing the finished guitar :glasses9:

I'm really excited to see what this is going to look like finished - did you come up with a solution to the index hole issue yet?

@ DustyCat - build a piezo only Explorer to match that neck!

Update:

The channel is routed and the luthier and I opted to drill down the dowel rod used for the plug and make some new plugs from some maple top material
that he had on the shelf. I can already tell it's going to be a much better match with the flat of the maple showing as opposed to the butt end of a rod.

Plug is in and better than what I got out of the box.
3rd coat of Master-Gel is on. One more very light coat to go.

This is looking good

Theres gonna be some bonus information gained from this build.

Will anything in your setup change due to doing the setup, then dissassemble and finishing? I bet not much, but maybe.. we'll see

Thanks!

The first test setup was with the stock saddles for the bridge plate so I haven't yet set it up with the graphtech saddles,
so the next setup will be from scratch, but that's no big deal.

It'll take me a few weeks of playing it to really get the action tweaked to where it performs well for me.
