They look like Schaller Locking tuners from the headstock photo. (They're definitely locking tuners)

Autobat nailed it with the tuners - they're Schaller mini locking tuners. The strings are Optima Gold MaxiFlex: and yes, they are 24carat gold plated. It makes them corrosion proof, for one thing; I'm to sure what the gold has to do with the tone, but that's why I play them, plus they are actually more flexible than "ordinary" strings.

Ah, yes, Maxima strings. I remember those. I think I only saw them around several years ago, but never tried them. I will see if I can get hold of a set and see what they feel like.
I'm trying out things again - picks, strings, guitars - after a long time with my old guitar hanging on the wall. Now I'm back to playing and enjoying it more than ever.

And the reason I'm enquiring about the tuners is that I noticed you were able to look the high e-string without - I assume - any problems.
The Hipshot locking tuners I bought have a tendency to loose it's grip on the high e-string even if I lock it ever so tight. I have to wrap it twice through the hole on the tuning post to be able to make it "stick".
So perhaps I'll get Schaller for my coming Warmoth build.

Tip for high e tuning with Hipshot. Have hole at around 1 to 2 o clock where the string exits. Tighten locking tuner, tune the string a little then tighten the locker a little more. That does it for me with 9s.

With locking tuners, I generally lock the high strings so it will go at least 3/4 of the way around the post. I find the extra contact helps it hold. I also re-tighten the lock after tuning up, like stratamania suggested.

And as I'm reading back, that's basically what stratamania does, just worded differently... so yes, do what he says.. :laughing7:

Off the top of my head I couldn't say that it produces much of a wind. I definitely want as little wind as possible with lockers and tremelo units. Having said that it maybe equals just over a half wind. It's going to vary from string change to string change of course.
