Hi all. Noob here as you can see (feeling pretty old otherwise) so please excuse any faux pas - like saying 'faux pas'...

So anyway, Warmoth finally snagged me. Being too poor for all those purty tonewoods - especially being in the UK and having to pay UPS and Her Majesty a small fortune - they had their work cut out.

Then this 'screamin' deal' came up. Always fancied a Jazzmaster but, usual story - couldn't get on with the bridge/trem. This one was a 'your choice tremolo'. They also had a black painted neck and so the idea of the completely black guitar I didn't realize I needed was born. Remembering that I had a couple of EMGs spare pushed me over the edge.

Didn't go for the painted neck in the end so spec is/will be:

Showcase Solid alder JM body - very small dent in this. Maybe why it was a screamin deal? Under the pickguard so don't care.
Showcase Wenge/ebony S neck 59 roundback
Single-ply black p/g
Sperzel locking tuners
Wilkinson trem
EMGs - 81 bridge, 89 neck

Here are the pics:

Maybe that's "nuthin fancy" in your book, but as far as i'm concerned the nicest work on this board usually comes in the form of "predominantly simple with one fancy bit to focus on" -- and that wenge grain figure is fancy enough to do the job.  Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Looking forward to seeing it come together.

Very nice  :occasion14:
The wenge sets that wayyy apart from Nuthin' Fancy,
If I didn't want an exotic that had the brightness of maple i would go for wenge again on my second build, so smooth and easy to move around on.

Nice to see another UK member, We're Catching up! ha.

I don't think I can say it any better than Bagman did. That's gonna be one fine instrument. Keep us in the loop with progress pics. I'll look forward to seeing that one come to life.

There's a bit of 'Fancy' on all Warmoth builds I've seen.

Yours is right in there as well.  :icon_biggrin:

Love that neck  :toothy10:
You will too ....

+1  :icon_thumright:
Very nicely understated!!!

Love the tangential grain on that Wenge. That's one of the best cuts I've seen on a guitar neck.  :icon_thumright:

Good lookin' stuff you have there. Fellow noob here, too, literally just found this site 2 days ago. Good luck on your axe!

Welcome to the Unofficial Warmoth web site! You're gonna love this place! It's fulla doctors and lawyers and IT guys and sassy ass holes like me! Now how much would you pay? Wait! Don't answer! Because what's more is they all like to build/play guitars and are very good at it. What could possibly be wrong with that?

Thanks for the comments guys.

I guess there was a little false modesty there - on Warmoth's behalf. I've always had gloss-finished necks but the raw wenge does feel amazing and that partridge wing(?) grain is verrry nice. Glad I went for it instead of the painted one.

I still have some of the black bits and pieces to find but shouldn't be long before I can put it together.
