im thinking about sending the neck back for a birdseye maple/rosewood, what do you guys think?

Looks great!
After playing a raw wood neck, I can't go back to finished woods. I'd suggest giving the wenge a chance!

That is shaaweeeeeeeeeeeeet, I usually don't like burst finishes. But that matte burst is awesome.... :icon_thumright:

BTW, keep the wenge, I have 2 both are awesome... :headbang1:

nah,I think it's perfect just the way it is...And I think he was asking about the neck, not the finish... :icon_biggrin:

I just bought a neck with the same combo.  Cant wait to try it out.....except I dont have a body for it... yet.

I disagree. On a strat, the grain is in the feel.

I actually like a LP with a grain filled top, but not the back.

Huh?  I think one or both of us is confused on what grain fill is.

I've always understood it as those lines in the finish where the grain is low. Am I WAY off?

Grain fill is what you use to fill in the natural grain lines, so you can have a smooth (grainless) surface to put your finish on.

You can use dark colored grain fill to accent the grain lines for a transparent finish.

That's what I take it to mean.  Every Strat I've ever held, regardless of the wood, had a smooth, grain-filled finish as did the fronts and backs of Les Pauls.  So the grain being the "feel" of the instrument I don't quite agree with or understand what you mean.

Step outside the box once in a while, you'd be surprised.... :dontknow:

An unfilled body/raw neck is so primal feeling. It's like playing something straight from the jungle or forrest or bolivian militia's private stock.

Rather than Hijack mastabassa's thread further, I'll continue in Max's Hijack thread.

That unfilled look doesn't always work, but I think it looks badass on this guitar.  Very cool guitar.  :headbang1:
