most of you already know about my fetish for obscure Japanese guitars.. well yesterday I found on of the nicest ones ever...
I know Joey will hate it (he hates hippie sandwiches) but this is a real nice high quality guitar:

an '81 Daion Power Mark XX
it is in reasonable condition for it's age, some belt scars, and there is a finish crack over where the bottom part was laminated, other than that, this is a fantastic guitar!
Carved top AND back, nice thin body, neck all the way through, and typically for your late 70s/early 80s guitars, most hardware is brass... even the dot inlays are brass!!!

I actually really like it, except for the neck-through aesthetic.
But this one seems a little nicer than others, given the varied thicknesses of the neck laminates.

I may as well post my pawnshop find from a couple of weeks ago... how often do you find a 28 year old American made guitar in perfect condition for 60 bucks? ;)

it's a peavey horizon I,  which apparently is way more rare than a Horizon II

Wow! The Daion is fantastic looking, I really wouldn't mind owning one of those...! What's the sound like? It looks like a lot of maple.

Why do I suddenly crave a sandwich?

Sweet axes - the Daion and especially the Peavey!  My main strat is a Peavey Predator with Carvin twin rail HB's - and it's awesome.  I doubt if I could find one anywhere for more than 125 bucks, and that's if I was really being played for a sucker.

Nice job, y'all.

Nice axes Marko, the '81 Daion Power Mark XX looks like an early version of the Ibanez Sabre series... :icon_biggrin:

Thanks!! actually, it reminds me a little of a thin PRS!

you are right, I see what you mean.. it actually reminded me of my Westone Villain... I really love thin guitars (which is weird for a fat guy like me)

Pretty cool!  My friend, Nancy, just got herself something like a 1962 (?) Aria Pro.  It's Les Paul-shaped, and very cool.  She sent me a pic.  I'll have to get the exact year on it.

The bridge on the Daion is fantastic. My Hagstrom HB-4 has a similar design, where the bridge has walls on three of the four sides, which keeps the saddles from tilting to the left or right ... as opposed to the rather foolishly designed open-sided Fender bridges which encourage askew saddles.

I think THIS guy might be an optimist, though:

or at least I hope you didn't pay much more than $3,210.00... :toothy10:

There are some really nice guitars out there, I'd love to stumble over an old Ibanez Musician MC400, 500, 550 etc. And there are certain old Westones and Aria Pro II's and Vantages that are great, and others that have a lot of details copied right but they weren't seemingly designed by guitar players.

He is very optimistic :)  they can fetch over 2000 though...
I paid just a fraction of that :)
