Was planning a Super Strat build with a Soloist body, but after designing my headstock mod I thought the Z body would really fit it.

Z Body
Swamp Ash core
Rosewood lam top
HSS and Floyd Rose routings
Will do natural masked binding
Danish or Tru Oil finish

Mooncaster neck cut to my
New design
Roasted Flame Maple
Ebony or Dark Rosewood Fretboard
Standard thin, 12” Radius
Supernova inlays in Gold Pearloid
6150 Gold Frets
Floyd shelf prep

Hardware
Schaller Floyd Rose
Pickups undecided, but black with gold rings
Black and gold metal knobs
Black and gold tuners
Of course CTS and Switchcraft and hand wired.

I can’t decide on tuners with gold body with black knobs, or black body with gold knobs. The former seems more readily available:

Any suggestions and/or criticisms would be great.

Thanks

Looks very cool! Also, the Z body is perfect for a kook like you!

I like it! It's kind of over the top but in a good way (y)
Thanks, I was afraid it was going to be a little over the top, but after I put all the pieces together I think it fits pretty well. I'm still a little undecided about the gold pearloid inlays and gold frets, but gotta sleep on it a while and hopefully get some good critiques. I think I'm going to go ahead and order the body now while I'm deciding on the neck.

I was thinking my next one would be a classy understated design after my Purple Haze build, but I just can't help myself.......

I see that your visualization of the body is based on Warmoth's mock-up. A few years ago I built a swamp ash with rosewood lam top body strat. The grain on my build is way different than the pic you posted. I would talk to Warmoth's sales staff before you order so that you get something like what you are expecting. I used Tru Oil finish on the build.

Ahh, thanks for that ! That is still a beautiful piece of wood, but I was hoping for some color variation. I love the wood pickguard ! How has the rosewood with Tru Oil held up ? They do not have any rosewood Unique Choice pieces, so like you said, maybe I can call inn for a special request. This is exactly the type of feedback I was looking for - thanks !

Using a coffee filter I applied around 20 coats of Tru Oil allowing each to dry for a day before reapplying the next coat. The finish has held up very well. You need to talk with the Warmoth sales staff to make sure that you get the color variation that you are looking for.

You guys are scaring me with all this Grim Reaper talk….. But seriously, I’m not a metal guy so that may be a little much. Still torn between that and the Solist. I still like the black and gold on the rosewood, but maybe tone down the neck…

That looks pretty good but I think the Z body is more unique and matches the headstock better.

As far as the "metal" comments you've got a lot of "metal" features; pointy headstock, floyd rose, cool body shapes, but I don't think it looks "too metal" to play some classic rock or alternative riffs on.

Absolutely not, you will proceed with the Z body. Sometimes, the mind is strong, but the ordering finger is weak....................

And fear not, the worst thing that will happen if you do the Z body is you may end up working at Sweetwater.........

LOL, I would love to work at Sweetwater ! One of my favorite companies along with Warmoth, StewMac and Parts Express.
