Interesting point re: warehouse spins... It seems counter-intuitive, but it really is desirable economically. No matter the margin, but especially when it's small, you want it to flow, not be ready to, per se. Finding the balance point is a real trick. I used to work for a large scale distributor, and that was a significant part of some bonus packages - how often things turned. You never wanted things sitting on the shelf. It was a constant source of contention between the sales force and management. The sales force would rather take a beating than say "no", and management would say "how many are you gonna sell?" before they'd invest real dollars that might collect nothing more than dust.

A question on Showcase necks I have is about Floyd Rose nut prep. I know it is only available on modern construction, but will a showcase neck that has a number of options for nut prep end up with a flat shelf under the whole of a FR nut or will part of it protrude?

I waited over six months for my Graffiti Yellow Strat body to hit the Showcase, checking the RSS every day. When it finally popped up I was in the middle of another build that was already going over budget, but I knew had to go for it. So I went from never building a Partscaster before to building two in the same week.

Had I just paid the extra $75 bucks to have one made when I wanted it I probably would have been better off lol.

Not sure if this is what you're asking about, but the below pics are of a Showcase neck that had a Floyd Rose prep done on it.  The nut is an OFR nut, not some aftermarket piece.  So, what you see below as far as fitment would hold true for an OFR nut, not sure about aftermarket nuts.

No problem at all.  The overhang is very minimal, maybe a millimeter.  From the front of the guitar, I don't even think it would ever be noticed.

If you spec a Floyd nut on a showcase neck there will be a slight overhang, because the slope from the surface of the fretboard down to the face of the headstock has already been done. The slope happens closer the nut on standard nut necks than it does on Floyd nut necks.


If you spec the neck build-to-order there won't be an overhang, because we know to move the slope to accommodate the Floyd nut.


There is no structural or functional difference, only visual.

Actually, I"ve been wearing contacts way more than normal, and my eyes were wigging out. I took and contact vacation, and my eyes are doing much better than normal.


Seeing all Steve Vai's recent videos gave me the courage to do it.  :icon_biggrin:

I wondered about this as I was measuring a slope on a couple of modern necks I have and also on a Floyd nut and it seemed that this may be the case, hence my question.
