I just picked up a compound radius big headstock strat neck with a very nice slab rosewood fingerboard for a build.  The number 344 is penciled in on the neck. Any idea what it means? I have no idea how to determine the age of it as there does not seem to be anything other than the fret and nut size on the heel. Same with the finish, it is very nice but is it nitro from the factory?  It does not appear to have been refinished...Thanks for any help...

Thanks for joining!  We have a photo fetish here at UW - got any pics of that neck for us?  That would help, as there are other identification marks besides numbers.

It looks darker than it is, there is no vintage tint applied it is just gloss. Nicely applied but clear

Any one?  What is the 344 penciled in on the neck butt end....

Sorry I cannot help you other than it may be related to a stock or order number. Is it under the finish or over it. It may have been added after it left Warmoth?

But the rest of the photos of bottom of the heel are not focussed or close enough to see the other details that would reveal more about the neck.

Hard to tell if it is under or over the finish....I would say over ...

Thanks, I knew the 2 numbers on the heel were fret size and nut width.  Had no idea what the red dot meant or the 344 but the link provided makes sense now.
