This has been a stealth option for a while now.  We finally have the marketing/PR stuff done so.... here it is!

I've been playing one of the first ones off the line since December and it feels fantastic.  Speaking strictly as a bass player, this is two thumbs up. :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

Dammit! I really wish my two necks were thinner.
If I ever buy another bass neck, it's getting the slim contour.

That's very cool.  I always thought that the W bass necks were a little chubby.

Nothing wrong with a solid handful of chubby.

not sure if you're joking, but that is my way of think...

was going to ask when will be avaiable thicker necks for bass :)

I have this newer contour on my current main P-bass, and going back to my other W necks makes me a little sad now.  Not because they're so bad, but because the new contour is so awesome.  It should be the standard contour.

No, the rule is what I like should always be the standard option. And I like chunky necks.  :icon_thumright:

Options are a good thing though, so still +++ on the new necks.

My Warmoth bass neck is a monster!  My dad's Squier bass is much easier to play.

It's OK, I noticed long ago that if you start playing on really skinny necks, you will become a whiner when presented with a normal neck.  If you start playing on fat necks, you will become a badass when presented with a normal neck.  :headbang:

Is there any reference of what these different profiles might be comparable to in terms of production instruments, so I can get an idea of how they feel before I think about buying one?

As an owner (current and previous) of many types of basses (Gibson, Ibanez, Warwick, Fender, and obviously Warmoth), I can tell you that the standard Warmoth bass neck is much more similar to a 60s Gibson EBO, or a 70s Gibson Gripper than a Fender.  It's thicker than my 70s Jazz bass (the one with binding and inlays and a slightly thicker neck profile).  The new thinner one is *similar* to many modern thinner necks, and though not quite as thin as an early 90s MIJ Fender, it's between that and a current American Standard.  It's wayyyyyy comfortable.

To be fair, the standard W profile is comfortable as well, but it doesn't *feel* like a Fender neck to me.

I guess I don't have extensive experience playing basses or knowing neck profiles, but an American standard felt fine to me when I was trying a few out at GC. You're saying that the profile of an American Standard is somewhere between the standard W and this new slim contour?

Sorta.  The Thin W contour is similar to a modern American Standard, but feels slimmer from the nut to the third fret.  It feels more like an Ibanez, but it's subtle.  An early 90s MIJ J Bass "feels" a lot like the Thin W, but it's overall slimmer.

I found the American Standard neck to be "blockier" than the Thin W, but not by much.

When it says it's available on J Bass and P Bass necks, is that refering to the 1 1/2 and 1 11/16 nut widths, or the headstock shape as it relates to the unangled peghead?  In other words, is it available on the other 4 string necks with angled headstocks?  Because they are available in 1 1/2 and 1 11/16 nut widths.
