It has been polished, and looks much better in real life. Some of those shots used a flash, which can be some pretty harsh lighting and will show up surface detail that you don't normally perceive in room lighting.
Why do you suppose women's vanity mirrors have so much lighting to them?
Because they're very unforgiving and tend to leave no stone unturned. If you can get happy in that light, things only improve everywhere else.

If I had a pile of chrome hardware and SS frets on the neck, then I'd have had it done that way, or perhaps black. But, as things work out, I've got gold frets and pile of gold hardware in hand, so we gotta match that or I gotta spend a pile of money I'd rather not at the moment. There's a Cocobolo neck in the Showcase that I keep staring at...

You don't have to dare me. I'm perfectly capable of making jackass moves without any encouragement whatsoever. Thing is, I have several guitars that aren't done yet, so I certainly don't need another one in the chute. Plus, there's other stuff I need. Hookers. Booze. Guns. Ammo. Y'know... survival items. But, I also have to balance supply/demand against available resources. The supply of Cocobolo necks is very low, and unlikely to improve. In fact, that situation is quite likely to deteriorate. So, one might want to strike while the iron's hot. May be close to the last chance. But, this is America, so the supply of guns, ammo and hookers will likely improve which means I probably don't need to worry about that, but there's still the reality of the here and now contrasted with the resources at hand...

Recut the headstock to a Warhead, put some monster gold frets and Schaller Mini-lockers on it - what could possibly be wrong with that? You kind of have to refrigerate them if you don't want to kill people, but they're best right out of the oven - just cool enough to not fall all apart. Steep a real vanilla bean, use the good sherry not the cooking sherry etc. - it's no different than making a guitar. Except the guitars last longer. One incentive toward my dissolution from the chef business was the awareness of where everything I worked so hard on Friday was - on Saturday.
