New Phone Day

New phone day has become one of those cultural norms that probably most people experience about every two years.  Yesterday was our day.  I previously was an Android guy, and had a Galaxy S3.  One thing I noted over the last couple of years is that there are a lot of guitar-related apps for the iPhone, but virtually none for Android.  So this year, I joined the sheeple and got an iPhone 6 Plus.

Having never had an iPhone before, can anyone tell me any "must-have" apps?

Garageband
And not just software ... but the Line 6 Sonic port http://line6.com/interfaces/#sonicport and MobilePod. And then you can use the MobilePod software as Inter-app Audio and record through that inside Garageband.

Wolfram Alpha should come standard on every phone. Though you probably already had it on your S3.

Thanks, guys.  I've heard of Garage Band.  I'll check it out.  And Wolfram Alpha sounds pretty cool.  I had to Google it.  Thanks!

I use my phone, android, to tune my guitars, it's actually pretty damn accurate.

In a world where we almost want to pay a ton of money for "Real Guitar" equipment, a free smart phone app works great.

I use Guitar Toolkit all the time. It's got a good metronome and comprehensive scale & chord references.

Also ProTap for finding song BPMs and iShred LE for noodling around on the train or the bus.

+1 for the Peterson strobeotuner app.

I also have a metronome on mine.  And the app for the LCBO (the Ontario liquor control board) that tells you which store you can find that bottle of Talisker 18...

Thank again for the suggestions.  But Mayfly, living in So Cal, I don't think I have a use for the LCBO app, but I like the way you think.  :laughing7:

My son got me an iRig for Christmas.  That led me to a few pretty cool apps:  AmpliTube, Bias, JamUp Pro, and Audiobus.  I've just been playing around with them a bit, but in particular, Bias is pretty cool.

A few years back, when the TC Electronic PolyTune app was released, they were doing a giveaway for the first X customers to download. I was pretty happy to get a $10 app for free. I think it's only $5 now. I would imagine there are plenty of good free tuner apps, too. They come in handy sometimes.

If you get a nice interface(I use the focusrite solo), you'll have a ton of fun with Positive Grid's Bias and Jamup Pro.

Yeah, see above.  :laughing7:  My son and daughter got me an iRig for Christmas.  I discovered Bias and Jamup Pro.  Those are freakin' awesome!  Most headphone amps are blah, at best.  The iPhone/iRig/Bias-Jamup combination comes up with sounds that not only are good, but downright inspiring!

I recently got a dB meter app. The one I got is called NoiSee and it's reasonably accurate (within a few dB's - there are other good one's, but some of the free one's are supposed to be pretty poor) and can also display OSHA type statistics to give you an idea if you might be killing your hearing.
