New peavey vypyr

+1 on the Valve Jr. or the VT-15. If you're into modding, the Valve Jr. can sound absolutely incredible. Sounds like you're not quite there yet. Those little Voxes sound really good for a decent price. Bugera also makes some good amps. Anything all-tube, preferably with a 12" speaker will sound pretty good and you can get it sounding great with a pedal or two.

You don't have to spend a lot of money.  Look at the Jet City stuff like Max got.  Lets see if we can get Max to chime in on this for his opinions of the Jet City stuff?
I won't say I'm an amp expert, but I'm a fan of my Jet Citys. They are not high-gain amps, not clean amps. They are thick sounding rock amps.
The clean isn't overly impressive, but it works for most things. For my clean, I like a bit of sparkle, but the amps just aren't made to do that.

The Valve JR's have excellent cleans and get pretty good gritty tones. Get the head and hook it to what ever the hell you want. Do some Bitmo mods and it's great. You can leave it stock and just some new tubes in it and be really really happy.

There's also the Peavey ValveKing. It's not everyone's favourite, and it can be a little dark-sounding, but it's a good-sounding amp overall, quite flexible (especially with a few pedals), and the price is right. Apparently they can be improved a lot with a simple tube swap, but I haven't gone that route with mine yet.

Thanks for your help guys i think right now im gonna go the route of a solid state modeling amp like a line 6 spider iv or peavey vypyr. this whole tube amp experience has been way to stressful and im gonna shy away from them until i can afford a better one.

You could keep the amp you've got for now, and add a modeller to it. The V-amp 2 is an effective modeller with a ton of special effects and different amps/speaker cabs, plus it sounds excellent through a set of headphones.

I've had a couple of them, as have others I know, and they're highly recommended. They're not really suitable for stage work, as the packaging isn't really sturdy enough to be kicked around. But, for a home practice platform? Tough to beat. They're very inexpensive even new, so used ones are a dime a dozen. There's one here for $49. If you can't get the sound you want out of that thing, you've got other problems that equipment probably isn't going to fix. It goes from jazz to hillbilly to thrash to murderous metal and all points in between.

You think those are supposed to vaguely resemble a Telecaster?  :icon_scratch: It's something I've wondered for some time.

I think all modellers are designed by guys who've done just a little too much acid in a previous life, so you end up with packaging that doesn't resemble anything so much as the product of a fevered mind <grin>

As silly as they all look on their own, it's nothing compared to what they look like once you've got them wired up to the point where they're useful. Kinda like a high-tech psychedelic version of the Flying Spaghetti Monster <grin>

Stay away from the Behringer stuff. It's quite poopy. The stuff seems cool and the prices are right but the quality is not there. When I worked at the store the stuff was called boomerangs because you knew it was coming back. You try to sell the custy Line6 instead and they want to act like you're a dick and just trying to get more money from them then they buy the crap and it breaks and they're are mad because they bought a ternd in a box it's a no win. Anyway just because it's a good deal doesn't mean it's worth spending money on. The Valve JR is a little over $100. Hell you could even use the amp you have now as a cab. Once you get more cash and a clear idea of what you want you can mod and get new cabs and speakers. If you start with good tone it's easier to end up with good tone.

So today i bought a Peavey Vypyr 15w, lovin it so far, loud as hell and found a website for patches. :blob7:

I am one happy camper for now (crosses fingers)    :-\
