Okay I finally replaced the power cord in this. The new cord is made from a 16-gauge grounded outdoor extension cord and it's a lot more impressive than the old cord:
It's a cap in many of the old Fender circuits tied to the polarity switch (before they had earthed
power cords) which, should it fail, has the potential to use *you* as ground while you touch the strings.
.047uF 600V is the common value found (as shown in his pic).
So. Yay for grounds! Of course I've always seen lamps and such with two pronged cables. Coming from the modern era, I assumed that for the more powerful devices always had the grounded plugs.
