Yes, but there's like half a century worth of legal precedent that says there aren't but so many reasonable body shapes, and trademark is pretty much constrained to headstocks and cutaway design.

So Warmoth can compete with $299 Agiles from Indonesia.... :toothy12: That spotlights the main problem - just about anything you make with a place for the neck, pickups and controls has already been made somewhere. You'd just be skipping from lawsuit, to lawsuit, to lawsuit! Which, of course, is just ONE MORE REASON for Warmoth to use their deal with Fender -

And while we're at it, why not a Fender Esprit shape... 1st one here is real Esprit, 2nd is the Robben Ford sig Esprit:
There is, really, nothing new under the sun. Now that Schecter, Ibanez, and now even Gibson are touting their new, streamlined "no-heel" neck joint, everybody's jumping on the bandwagon, like this guy:
That's one was made by that thieving little time-traveling Paul Bigsby, who used a crystal ball to come out with that guitar - in 1948!

Plus three for Esprit! I'd take an Esprit over the Starcaster. I would like an offset waist with balancing horn (think Jazz bass cross bred with a Soloist), but the Starcaster looks ....well a little special. An esprit with a decent flat hardtail would be cool though.
