I think Vintage is one of those brands that gets away with their VERY similar design just because they're not US based. Like Burny or Tokai. Maybe not though, because I've seen some Vintage guitars in a local shop. Anybody know?

Gibson Nighthawk without a doubt.

Carvin makes some real sharp single-cutaways, but they're set-necks. Still, the relieved and set back lower horn (sorta like a PRS) that gives better high fret access and the tummy cut are both nice.

Ya know, I hate Gibson (and I'll never own one). I'm really sorry I spoke out in defense of their asses when they got raided for illegal woods. I still don't agree with the way that it was done, but Gibson deserves any and all grief they get.

So its not ok for the government to enforce some guidelines that were put in place to keep major money out of drug loards hands but it is ok to rip off some body's iconic and flagship design? That doesn't make sense. :dontknow:

First of all, I said I don't agree with the way the government went about it. Of course they should enforce the Law.

Second of all, Warmoth never "ripped off" Gibson. They don't sell guitars. They sell guitar parts, and the "LP" is a bolt-on neck with a 25-1/2" scale, a contoured heel, and the bridge & tailpiece are in a different location. Gibson makes no such guitar, and just because the body has the same "shape" does not constitute a "rip off". 

This is just a demonstration of what a bunch of douche-bags the Gibson company really are.

Not to defend them, but there are other companies that send cease and desist orders, or just plain sue.  At least there were discussions about it.  It might not of worked out, but at least there was an attempt.

Warmoths official text about the subject so far is:

"In response to Gibson’s legal demands over trademark infringements, Warmoth is no longer able to build new product for this precise body shape. However, there may be existing product available from our In Stock Showcase that will satisfy your needs – until they are all gone. New, similar but non infringing, bodies will be available in the coming months. We beg your understanding and apologies for any inconvenience this might cause."

So far there has been no news about actual body shapes and/or options. So we can only guess.

My guess is it will be awesome.


By the way - don't mind Marko - he used to be European, Dutch or something like that  :icon_biggrin:

What about the Explorer?  Is that still available?

Well, don't start partying yet. They do more than guitars. As a corporation, they still own Baldwin, Epiphone, Kalamazoo, Kramer, Maestro, Slingerland, Steinberger, Tobias, Valley Arts and Wurlitzer. Most of those are also-rans as well, but they're still somewhat viable brands and there's a great deal of IP involved with all that. Even if they went tits-up tomorrow, they'd sell all those trademarks/patents/copyrights to some troll who'd continue to badger the industry for free money via rent-seeking.
