New LP body shape

it's not that I don't like them, but there is something off about their LP model. and I really liked that other Swedish builder (If I can remember his name)

That's funny. I agree that there is something "off" about it, albeit intentionally, I believe. It's like a LP that ate too much ice cream and cake, a little bit fuller figured, but I like that. After all ... I own two of them.  :icon_biggrin:

Yes, but there's like half a century worth of legal precedent that says there aren't but so many reasonable body shapes, and trademark is pretty much constrained to headstocks and cutaway design.

Kramer's Spector division used to produce some very high-end guitars and basses.

I've heard of Spector basses but didn't know Spector made guitars.  Are they USA-made or foreign?

They were made from '86 to '90.  There were US-made and import versions.  Absolutely nothing like the Kramer's of then or now.  Check out this link:

A LP with a rounded horn would look pretty nice!

So Warmoth can compete with $299 Agiles from Indonesia.... :toothy12: That spotlights the main problem - just about anything you make with a place for the neck, pickups and controls has already been made somewhere. You'd just be skipping from lawsuit, to lawsuit, to lawsuit! Which, of course, is just ONE MORE REASON for Warmoth to use their deal with Fender -

to make a Starcaster body!  :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

And while we're at it, why not a Fender Esprit shape... 1st one here is real Esprit, 2nd is the Robben Ford sig Esprit:

There is, really, nothing new under the sun. Now that Schecter, Ibanez, and now even Gibson are touting their new, streamlined "no-heel" neck joint, everybody's jumping on the bandwagon, like this guy:

That's one was made by that thieving little time-traveling Paul Bigsby, who used a crystal ball to come out with that guitar - in 1948!

As always, the insights flow from Stubby.

Also, plus one on the Esprit love.  Them are pretty double-cutaways.

Plus three for Esprit! I'd take an Esprit over the Starcaster. I would like an offset waist with  balancing horn (think Jazz bass cross bred with a Soloist), but the Starcaster looks ....well a little special. An esprit with a decent flat hardtail would be cool though.
