New Jazzmaster build (mahogany/wenge/humbuckers/mastery) EDIT: FINISHED!

Unfortunately, I have to ship the body off to MJT for finishing. They said that it can take 8-10 weeks. Oh well, at least it will look amazing when it's done.

Posted this in another section, but I might as well post it here, too.

The body and neck showed up today. I pieced everything together and weighed it and it comes in at under 8 lbs. I'm actually kinda shocked. Here are some pics.

I still have to ship the body off to wait for paint, so it'll still be another 8-10 weeks before I get to play it.

Got some updated pics from MJT a few minutes ago and thought I'd share.

Clear coat is next. Probably another 4-5 weeks before I can start putting it all together. It's getting real!

I'm curious to see how you like the pickup combination. I suspect they will sound great.

For some reason, I never saw this comment until just now. I have never played Porter pickups, but I have always heard great things, and their prices are very competitive. They're about half of what a set of Lollar Imperials would have cost.

I have had a bunch of P90 neck/HB bridge guitars, but I have never had anything with filtertrons. Brian Porter told me that his Portertron sounds a lot like his regular humbucker, except more complex with bigger lows. That sounds good to me since I tend to dial up my amp tone to get a bright, snappy neck/middle tone, and the bridge is super harsh. I'm hoping that the filtertron will help correct that.

If not, I have another set of Porter humbuckers with matching covers on the way for a tele deluxe build. I can mix and match until I'm happy. Or I might buy a neck portertron if I really love the bridge.

Y'know, I've always wondered-and never figured out-what the hell ''more complex'' means when describing pickup tone...not once in my life have I EVER heard a guitar tone that I loved and thought
to myself "Wow, that Dude's tone is really COMPLEX-I love it!". Know what I mean? Can anyone help
me out? Do I need help? Do I want help?  :dontknow:

Oh, and forgive me--Your jazzmaster is going to be just gorgeous and classy! (And it isn't even complex...). :icon_thumright:

haha - dude, I totally get it. I have never really understood the "more complex" descriptor either. I was just quoting what Brian told me.

Here's exactly what he said: "The PorterTrons are a little more thick and complex in tone. They are similar coil winds, but the trons have the dual poles which give you a broader translation of the strings."

So anyway. We'll see.

...and who could be so rude to pass up a ''broader translation of the strings''?!? I mean REALLY! :icon_biggrin:

Lol for real. What does that even mean? I love tone words. It's like listening to someone describe wine. I hate to make fun of him - he has been nothing but helpful, and his customer service is fantastic.

I recently bought a used set of uncovered humbuckers on tgp and he put nickel covers on them for free. He initially quoted me $25 to wax pot the pickups and install the covers, but then he was like "it's on the house" and didn't even charge me return shipping. The dude has definitely won my business, assuming the broad translation of the strings is sufficiently complex, of course.

Just got shipping info on the body from MJT. It should be in my hands on Monday! I am beyond ready to get this guitar together. It has been percolating in my mind for a looong time.

I got the body in today and finished all the assembly. I am completely head over heels about how it turned out. It's easily one of the coolest-looking guitars I have ever seen. It still needs some tweaking, but it feels pretty good as is.
