So, I have my new soloist strunged and all is pretty good.
However, the strings feel "stiff" and not as slinky as i,m used to on my other guitars, Charvel, Fender etc.

I used 0,10 strings and half step down tuning.. and i have a realy light playing style and need super slow action..

Any advice on where to begin to check?

Thanx!

What kind of bridge do you have?
(if it's a vibrato): is it flat mount or floating?

leave as much info as possible, as we can't see your guitar from here.

Thanx.

Its a recessed OFR.
Neck is installed without any shims, just wood to wood.

24 frets medium jumbo.. Compound radius, standard thin

Its this guitar from this thread..

Pics on the guitar is on page 6.

Thanx for helping

Reading around I didn't find much useful information, and much of it was subjective.
If it's your only Floyd guitar it may be that it's just going to feel different.
A remote possibility would be if the strings are rubbing in the cavity.

Sorry I can't be more help, but I'll be installing my first OFR in 2-6 weeks and can probably provide more tips long after you've sorted yours out.

Hi

Thanx for trying, What kind of info are you looking for?

I have OFR on all my guitars..

Its not that is feels bad or is bad,, however when compared to my main guitar (A Charvel So Cal) The strings on this warmoth feels like i have to "fight" them harder.. in lack of better explanation..

My other other guitar, a Fender HM strat from 89 also has a very slinky easy feel to it.

Thanx

So i,m guessing that i should be able to get that from this warmoth as well..  ???

All other things being equal (bridge, scale length, string gauge, setup, etc.), it might be something as simple as new strings vs. old. New strings are clean and smooth, so you have to get a better grip to stretch them or it'll feel like you're losing them under your fingertip. Or, the same thing could occur due to fret height. Taller frets allow a better grip as the pressure exerted is concentrated on the string instead of spread out across the whole surface of your fingertip as it contacts the fretboard.

Any difference in trem springs on the two guitars?  Do they each have the same number and type of springs?  Are the trem blocks the same dimensions?  Different trem block dimensions could make the spring tension a little different - perhaps to such a degree that it makes them play differently.

Just wild speculation on my part, of course.  I have had exactly one Floyd-equipped guitar, and that was one too many for me.

The springs are the same.. at least in that they are 3 springs on all guitars.
Difference is of course that these are new springs...

DbU, The neck is with clear satin nitro by Warmoth. Do i need to do something on the frets?

Thanx

hehe ok :)

I have got som tips that i should shim the saddles on the Floyd to match the compound radius of the neck.. So i,ll try that :)

Yes, when Warmoth clears the neck and fret board, they spray clear over the frets too. Tape off between the frets and use some 1000 steel wool to clean it off.

Synthetic steel wool is a lot cleaner to work with.

So did this fix the problem?  :icon_scratch:

Hey,

I've had the same problem on some of my guitars. You would be surprised what just adjusting the truss rod will do for that. Tension on the springs may or may not be important but truss rod and action may be a factor.

Just another thing to try.
