Dudes -

I'm nearly finished doing the back end work for this next album - but I need to fill out a few blanks and it's killing me!  I need to compare my music to other similar artists, but I have no idea what my style even is.  Can anyone shed some light using the names of other similar artists?  :tard:

I have never been a fan of "styles". I find it's misleading and limiting. I think the highest praise would be to have no style.
But at the same time, I understand what you mean and need.
Since you play the guitar and your music draws influences from different genres and you have that film or image quality to your compositions, the artist that comes to my mind now is Trevor Rabin.

My first question to you is, "Why can't I have that hair?"  Those two cats are like struttin' peacocks, my friend.  Very much Mel Gibson of the Lethal Weapon vintage meets Old Stallone.  I like it.  I just want someone to open up my cage and let me strut, man.

Secondly - thank you.  Never heard of him, but really appreciate the exposure to this artist!  Love his style and passion.  Very articulate, too.

NEVER HEARD OF HIM???

But you've heard him, I'm sure:
Yes: Owner of a Lonely Heart:

Con Air:

And fifty five more films ...

Seriously, Trevor Rabin is the reason Yes was a successful pop band in the '80's.  Tremendous skills on the guitar and as a recording engineer and producer.

WOW I LOVED that tune when I was growing up!  So cool with those vocal harmonies and production.  LOVE IT!

Sometimes I don't feel like a legitimate musician.  I dont even listen to much music.  I'm a sham.  A SHAM I TELL YOU!

That makes two of us, except you're far more legit than me.  :laughing7:

Seriously, though, yeah, I get the Trevor reference.

First of all, this. But that being said, Trevor Rabin is a good comparison. Your phrasing puts Andy Timmons in mind for me, and your tone on several of your tracks reminds me of Robin Trower from the Bridge of Sighs album. I think the best thing you could do is put 'Instrumental Rock' as your genre and let others do the categorization for you.

Just my $0.02. HTH.
