need advice on fret leveling a compound neck

on that one i might start with the straight edge and just lightly touch it up with the sharpening stone after. i mean it might be ok for most people iif you just use the stone but the thread starts with you saying you expected the strings to go lower. then you identified that you have some geometry issues, if you only use the stone it will gravitate the fret heights towards each other but not adress the underlying geometry issues, i'd use the straight edge, but i've done this once before and if that's a heavy tool it may cut FAST. be gentle!!. then do all the crowning. but i'd probably check it out with some radius gauges before i started. i'd want to know where the problems really are.

As far as I've understood, the neck will have a slightly different shape under tension, than with the strings off. That's the reason for trying to level them under tension.

that sounds good in theory but i don't think you have anything to worry about. don't go creating solutions in search of a problem.
