Need a little help with a repair

Greetings,

I have a mahogany Velocity body that I've been working on.  Successfully created binding routes, however I screwed up with drilling the holes for the pots.  On the front side, being the idiot I am, I used masking tape to prevent tear out when drilling the holes for the pots.  When I pulled the tape off, it pulled some fibers from the body and wound up pulling up a good strand of fiber to where I now have a noticeable gouge in the wood, however the strand is still attached to the body and kind of hanging off.

Recommendations on how to fix?  I saved a bunch of saw dust from routing the body bindings and was thinking of mixing the saw dust into an epoxy mix, and then applying, let dry and sand down.

i'd tack it down using a bit of super glue, then hope the knob covers the rest.

If you can glue the strand back where it came from, that's always preferable. Then, if need be use the dust paste to fill in any gaps. If your careful about orientation when you glue the strand back, it may not nee much filling.  :headbang:

Just wanted to say thanks for the help on this.  I mixed saw dust from the body with Titebond, filled in the spots needed, let dry, and sanded back.  Came out well.

The before illustrating the tear out by the holes for the pots, which ran all the way up to the recess of the bottom bout....

And the after.  Still showing an eensy weensy, but it actually works.

Agree! Body and pickguard holes, good brad points are the way to fo.. And if you can brace your drill point with another piece of wood for support, all the better.

And for those without a drill press and working with a hand drill, you could make the holes a little undersize and finish with a $10 reamer.
