Neck with a black korina body

I just ordered a black korina strat and I am wondering if a goncalo alves neck and pau ferro fretboard would match. I am looking for a medium tone (not too warm not too bright) and since korina is already a warm wood I thought goncalo and pau ferro would compensate. What do you think? I will have Cools rails on neck, vintage rails in middle and duncan custom on bridge.

Any advice is highly appreciated  :icon_biggrin:

I think Goncalo Alves generally is on the warm side. But we are really talking minor differences tone-wise - and on top of that it is only a rule of thumb and the specific neck can be anywhere in the specter.

I think you're good. I have three Warmoth necks with the Goncalo Alvez/Pau Ferro-combo and they all really great sounding.

Aesthetically, that's a lot of brown wood, all together. Personally, I wouldn't find it tasteful. You need some contrast, like Wenge, dark Rosewood, Bloodwood, or Ebony.

Or maple - since the black korina is already probably going to be dark itself, maybe a LIGHTER color would look better. Impossible to say though without seeing the actual body wood.

Also, FWIW, I have a couple of guitars with goncalo alves necks, and they have darkened significantly over a brief amount of time (a year or two). This might also be a consideration. As for myself, I wouldn't trade the goncalo necks on mine... great neck wood IMO.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it!

For one thing I read a lot of reviews about alves and pau ferro being a good combination. I was more concerned about the tone but since you just confirmed again that it's not gonna change the world I'm fine with it... It's not like I'm plotting the frequency response of my guitar  :icon_tongue:

As for the colours, I have the black korina with black/red/yellow burst so it's not gonna really show in contrast with the neck woods.

As for maple i dont want a finished glossy neck. I would prefer a raw wood with no finish  :laughing7:

Cheers :occasion14:
