Neck twist...

I have had an old early 80s Ibanez Destroyer lying around for a long time that I have been wanting to mod, like re-finishing the whole thing, making an Explorer-like pickguard and only one humbucker, string through isntead of a stop bar and a strat top jack and stuff like that...

However I looked at the neck again and I'm afraid it has been twisted for some reason.

Before I begin trying to get a good photo with my camera (it has broken display haha), I wanna ask, can a neck twist without strings on?

And if so, may it straighten out with strings on? Becuase this can turn into a expensive project that I don't wanna do if it is just going to be a waste of time and money.

The short answer is yes the neck can twist with no strings on.
It is made of wood remember!
Put the strings on, slacken the truss rod, let it sit for a bit (days) and then adjust the truss rod.

If that fails, go to the Aria website and read the instructions for their neck-straightening tool. You won't need to buy it, but have a look, it should give you some good ideas if the neck won't straighten the easy way.

If that fails, new neck!

Yeah, a neck for an old Ibanez destroyer is probably very easy to find  :toothy12:

I don't know but I feel like I wont put more effort in this, I'm not that experienced with guitar fixing and stuff so I better leave it to someone who knows what to do

there are several good DIY neck fixes available on the net.

I had a neck thru that when the truss rod nut was loose, still needed some relief.

a .048 low E in the high E position tightened down a bit, and the .048 low E tightened a bit and left in a warm closet for about a month with the truss rod nut loose, fixed it right up.  (several straps wrapped around the rosewood fretboard to prevent it from popping off in the heat)
