Neck transplant: Mad doctor stuff...

I just got that swamp ash tele body down in the classifieds.  I've also got another swamp ash tele body, about to be sprayed metallic blue (sort of a Lake Placid Blue... close to it).

I've already got a swamp ash thinline with a nice playing goncalo neck, finished in clear lacquer.  The problem is - the pickups, the neck, the thinline.. a little too warm, too thick.  It needs some brightening.

I've also got a really nice birdseye maple neck needing finishing.  I got that for the tele thats gonna be painted blue.

So, here's the plan -

Finish the birdseye neck, and put it on the thinline to brighten it up a tad.  It'll be crisper that way.

Take the goncalo neck, and put it on the solid swamp ash tele that will arrive in the not-to-distant future.  That one's routed hb/tele-bridge, so I can put something light wound in the neck and something sorta vintage in the bridge and get a good balance and probably some ok tone.

Which means... the blue one needs a neck.

Was thinking of a VM neck in canary, with rosewood board and some trapezoid inlays, 21 fret.  That one is also routed HB/tele-bridge.  I'll use the same model pickups as afore mentioned - be nice to see how necks along alter things, no?

Any thoughts on canary?  The whole plan?

When I get a chance to do a new build I plan on a Canary neck so I like that idea.  But I'm like Max on the traps, just don't think it would look right.  If you had a Jackson peghead and Floyd I could see it.  But since everything else is going to be cosmetically traditional, my preference would be maybe perl dots.

The blue and canary will look nice, but I'm not so sure about the traps on the neck.

I thought the traps might look nice, I dunno... I got no style, no class, no sense of fashion...

The idea was to go that Lake Placid Blue, with black pickguard, dark fretboard and some traps... blocks?  Double-D diamonds?

maybe a black peghead?

I'm just tossin out stuff... ya know... for input

I love the canary on my Tele.  I'd give it a big thumbs up.

Maybe canary/ebony with MOP dots.

I've got a Canary/Canary neck on one of my Teles, it's very very nice.

Canary/Rosewood would be the cats ass.  Can't comment on the position markers.

I take back what I said about the traps potentially looking "off."
I misread your post, and thought it said canary/canary for a neck. On rosewood, it would look fine. I'd recommend binding, but that's just for a bit of extra class.

That blue esquire up there is way cool by the way....

How's canary SOUND on a tele is the real question I 'spose.....

no style, no class, no sense of fasion,  LOL you crack us all up, and I second Max's mock up, he's got a great insight as to whats cool

I don't have an all-canary neck yet (that'll be for my "NextGen Blackguard" project), but if there is any tonal difference between the couple of ebony on canary necks I have and maple, I can't really hear it.

This would work on your Tele.... http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseNeck.aspx?i=TN2698&Body=1&Path=Neck

Stole the mock up of Max and changed it to white esquire guard and other with canary fingerboard, but can't upload here and I'm lazy to upload somewhere else :tard:

I think either a pure white pickguard, not creme.  Probably go black though.  Not sure on the binding.  I think if bound, I'd wanna paint the face of the peghead too.  If I leave the peghead as is, unbound might be more in line with the "overall" look.

Thoughts?  Blocks instead?
